Hdc3 Sealed???

The aluminum coil costs more?
i believe the aluminum coil is a $50 upgrade.

aluminum - cheaper/more power handling.

copper - really expensive now a days/ less power handling.

i just now see what you are getting at though lol. i guess, if you want to have access to a coil that will handle more power, you gotta pay more for aluminum that costs less than copper //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

but going off production wise and rolling a seperate coil with aluminum would be more costly than simply rolling all voicecoils in copper. which i think costs the 50$.
they dont make there own coils, but your right the copper is going to be the "standard" the $50 will be more of a labor cost/upgrade for us SPL freaks //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Still worth it in my mind, BTW the copper coil on the regular HD which had less cooling took burps very well and I havnt burnt one up yet with 2-AT7ks @.5nominal on them //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif but Id prefer the alluminum for my application //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

no just ignore all advice given to you. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/verymad.gif.3f39c5c2fd57527b671fad3efdfac756.gif
Ohh com on you guys type way too fast lol //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

the aluminum cost more because of machining tolerances... copper is alot easier to work with (there are thousand of copper coils out there) the aluminum coils are machined specifically for that motor and the tolerance have to be a lot tight for flatwinding.

personally... even with less power, i would take the aluminum. i like bass, therefore i am pretty rough on subs... aluminum cools faster and i would rather know that my subs have a little more thermal headroom if i am going to be running them all day.

i would loose a few tenths on the meter for reliability and day of the week.

Have you looked at the parameters between the 12" Type-R and 15" Type-R? What about the HDC3s? It's rare that any subs sound similar withing their model.
im willing to bet that if i put 2 hdc's 1 12" and 1 15" model, in a car, blindfolded you, and then let you listen to it, that the only difference you would notice between them in output. (providing that boxes both load the same way and one or the other isnt acting any differently because of box positioning etc)

thats a pretty bold statement there george... i would agree only if they were both sealed in .707 Q box... if you go ported... there are WAY to many factors that could go awry.

in a perfect world they should sound very similar... but mathematically two HDC315's in the same box will technically sound different. its IMPOSSIBLE to have exact specs across the board... but then again car audio is anything but a perfect world.

in my experience (contrary to popular belief) the more cone area you have for a given amount of motor force to more accurate you will be for a given amount of power applied (within reason)

so if you have a single 15 and a single 12, both with the same motor structure... the 15 only has to move roughly 65% as much as the twelve to pressurize the same amount of air. so basically as long as you have an adequate amount of power to control the cone of your sub... more cone area in a well built box will sound better than less cone area with a more efficient box to compensate for the lost output from lack of cone area.

just my thoughts though

While I can't judge the HDC3s by ear, I can look at the parameters and see a large difference between the two in the series.

The Type-R 15s definitely do well in sealed enclosures and can have good low end. The 12s don't work out the same. I've heard plenty of 12" R setups both sealed and ported in many different vehicles and the 12 just doesn't do too well sealed in the lower regions, even with over damped sealed alignments.

Hey so I'm shit out of luck since there all SOLD OUT till mid feb.... Then I'll prob get 2 x15's!

How do you guys think they will like a 3000D :p

I'm hoping to get one down the road untill then I'll baby them with my merlin md3d! LoL

ALSO WANNA THROW out a THANKS for the quick resoponces and HELPFUL knoledge!
