HDC3 Scratching

Hey guys,

I recently ordered an Audioque HDC3 12" Copper Coils D2. I've had it installed for about 2 months on a RF T20001BD in a recommended sized ported enclosure. Just last week, I've noticed that when I pop the trunk and listen to the sub I hear a scratching or a metal "jingling" sound. In the cabin, it isn't even noticeable.

I've metered the coils and they both meter to 1.8ohms exactly. I don't see a burned voice coil when looking in. I've read that this MAY be due to not breaking in the sub properly. Honestly, I believe I did break it in properly. I played it at extremely low volumes for almost the first month. The suspension is still pretty stiff though. Any ideas? Do I need a recoil already???

Also, if I pluck the dust cap with my finger I hear a metal "jingling" sound.

its probley a broken tripple joint.

check the spiders around the former....

I know where the spider is, but where is the former and the triple joint? Pardon my ignorance.

At first glance, all of the spider seemed intact.

My sub makes somewhat of the same sound.. I was thinking it was because of my setting and my box being tuned so low.

Mine didnt start it until recently though. And my box is tuned to about 36-38hz if I recall correctly.

The former is what the voice coil is wrapped around, correct?

the former is what the coil wire is wrapped around. it is part of the voice coil...

there is something wrong with both ur guys subs

Coil rub? what about any air leaks?

My sub makes that sound on certain notes very rarely. My sub is barely broken in at best.

It sounds to me like the bottom of the coils is unwrapping or something of that nature, you probably couldn't see it.

Probably not since your running over rated power. But, you can get a psi recone. That'd be sweet.

Form what I heard/seen/read aq subs are VERY touchy bout them being broken in....

Sux for you guys cause the subs are on there last leg!! Lol

I checked the spiders and they seem fully intact all the way around. There isn't a way to check for unwound coils without ripping the cone apart, is there?

Probably not since your running over rated power. But, you can get a SPL AUDIO recone. That'd be sweet.
