HDC3 noise?

You will get a lil bit of mechanical noise. Thats unavoidable. Its normal. Some of the noise they make will go away with time. The C3 takes a very long time to settle to fully breakin.

Like i have said 100000000 times before that sub doesnt like to be tuned to 35 or below. Tune it at 38 to 40 and call it a day.. Im serious.. The lows will be there..

Jake the noise they are talking about is similar to the DD noise which is common due to the design.. Also which is more noticeable "out of tuning"... I personally never ever heard such a noise.. I ran 4 of the 10's tuned at 40 cycles and could play pretty much anything i wanted even low stuff without the noise..

Seriously that variant of the enclosure you are running distroyed Doug's D3 15.. Rich is good people seriously nice enclosure, Dont get me wrong.. I just wouldn't run the C3 in it..

4 Cubes @ 40 sub back port back and call it a day. Hell if you where closer i would just bring you here and show you.

well i seen you said u had gain halfway and what not but i was hearing the same with my l7 and i had my gains too much and i set with them a dmm and the nosie is gone bc i was overpowering the sub if you are overpowering then thats prob why

also is might be because the sub is new and a spl sub isnt gonna sound perfect

i say set gains with dmm and see how it does

i have an older pioneer head unit that is rated for 2.2v preout. i set gains using vol. 50 no bass enhancements sub preout set to 6 which is max on the h/u. the thing is is that if i were overpowering it then why does it continue to get louder? if it were clipping then it shouldnt get any louder it would just ditort more and more. DB i talked with rich tonight and hes saying that this enclosure having such a small compression chaber that i shouldnt even need to run a SSF. I am going to get some vids of the sub tomorrow and show it here and let rich here it. But the noise is similar to a DD according to a video that rich showed me. http://s19.photobucket.com/albums/b194/rich1034/?action=view&current=MOV01277.flv

thats the noise but not as loud cuz im not driving mine quite that hard.

not sure if i can do 4.5. but after going through ignoreme's post i know what it is now. if i can squeeze 4.5 i will if not ill get as close to it as possible and tune to 40!

i had mine in 4.5 cubes @ 33hz = noise

i had mine in 4 cubes @ 38hz = noise

i just saw a post with dj like a 2 weeks or so ago, he recommended 36-40hz for most applications. first time i ever saw him say it, but he did say it.

I'm curious what kind of noise everyone is talking about?
Are you locking up the spiders due to over-excursion?

this noise.

it was REALLY bad at first. ive never heard this from any subwoofers ive previously owned so i was worried as hell. it was so bad on some songs i could hear it over the bass from the front drivers seat, even when it wasn't at full tilt (i was too scared to play it full tilt when hearing that noise). it was so bad, everyone started blaming the box, me included. so i built another one closer to specs. hell, i even started to second guess myself and say "well, maybe the hdc just sounds different when it bottoms out" (which it doesnt, as i did it once a little while ago when the song was way below tuning which was 38hz)

put it in the new box, and it still did it, but it had broken in some so the noise wasnt nearly as noticeable and after a little while i couldn't hear it from the front of the car anymore, just bass. i was interested if it still made the noise, so i would go back and check periodically on it. the noise was there up until the day i sold it.

nate, the buyer, said it only needed a little more break in and it went away. but then again, a little after that, the spider tore on it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

The 2" speakers on my desk aren't letting me hear it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I know that on the DD 9500 woofers you can hear the air wooshing through the cooling when you take them out of the box - and sometimes with a very large port you can hear it through the port. Many people don't notice this sound as the bass is generally much louder. This sound freaked me out a bit when I had my first DD 9500 and played it out of the box, but it is simply the cooling system in action. Is it like that sound?

Or, is it more of a whacking sound? That would be more like getting to the limit of the spiders and locking them up. The little 8" driver I'm building will do this past about 14-15 mm of travel one-way - sounds like bottoming out but it's the spider saying "no mo' travel." Much like the AQ there is plenty of room behind the coil so I doubt anyone is really hitting back plate.

The latter makes sense to me since you report the sound then the driver experienced a failure - seems consistent with locking up the suspension too many times and fatiguing the spider at the glue joint (presumably a very hard glue, so it could shear the comparatively soft spider). And Alex had no issues at all with his drivers and did not report a big problem with the sound so he was likely not reaching suspension limits.

If I had to guess that is what I'd say it is, suspension hitting limits due to too much power at very low frequencies. If DJL is around I'm sure he can confirm or correct me on that as he knows how far the spiders are supposed to move.

yup thats the same noise but **** dont be that harsh on the speakers. AND NO BREAKING IT IN WILL NOT STOP THAT! idiots

gonna get the vids today guys, ill let yall hear it, what Sundownz is saying is making sense to me about the spiders. gonna pull mine out today and do an inspection.

ok i pulled the sub out this morning, everything is perfect. coil still looks brand spankin new. so from what i am seeing i need to change the box. So say im throwing 2k on this woofer what size and what tuning. DB?
