hdc3 break in noise?

those of you who have had aq hdc3 12's.. ive had mine for like a week but havent got alot of break in time on it yet. well if i turn it up and get it moving a fair amount i get a horrible noise like wood smacking or something. is this the stiff suspension causing this noise? i know they need like 10 hours of break in but was curious if this is gonna clear up or if the coil is rubbing possibly

who built ur box? friend had a prefab with 2 type r's that made that noise at loud volume.. the back wall was not wood glued or screwed.. so when it would hit the top and back wall would clap together.. i fixed it with 2 clamps and some wood glue

I've NEVER had any noise from all the HDC set ups I've done, but I always break them in. Sleepy just beats on em right away and have never had any issues, so not sure what's u with your set up.

i built my own box. front is double baffled. ill have to check today but the sub was making a noise free air too not even that cranked up so im not sure

just free aired my woofer and it sounds awful its so fucckin noisy even at lower volumes theres a nasty smacking sorta sound. the low freqs are the worst and the only way they dont sound like shhit is if i have it so low that theres barely any excursion. the box is not the problem

I had a problem before with some brand new 12s i bought, turned out i cracked one of the terminal cups right down the middle when installing it somehow, but i could barely see it. Sounded exactly like coil rub, i was pissed, till i put my hand around the box and felt the air, then i was happy //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

who told you to turn it up so its excursion is high on free air....thats just a dumb move
i didnt put it on high excursion during free air. i keep it low outside the box. im talking about it being in the box on higher excursions

what is your box tuned to...and what is ur subsonic filter tuned to....thats probably your problem.playing too far below tuning will cause that sound.
my box is tuned to 38 and i did think of that and i did turn my subsonic up more and it helped with the lower frequencies beacuse i mainly got rid of them. im not sure what the filters set to exactly id have to count the notches. but.. the higher frequencies make the noise slightly also at higher excursions as well, but i really dont thinkim exceeding its xmax its not moving that insanely
