Has the Rainbow boner gone flaccid?

Every other thread used to be about Rainbow, and everyone had Germs or SLCs. They used to be recommended for every budget, and everyone constantly sucked on the Rainbow boner.

So, what's the deal?

(And I know every rainbow fan is gonna come out of the woods for this one)

I honestly never understood that one. You had people who ordinarily listen to nothing but badly-produced rap talking about running their Germs active...I never could understand it.

I still wouldn't mind a set of Germs or Profis, a couple Kraftwerks, and a Vanadium //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

i think when woofersetc started carrying them it brought them down a little
i had some 3way profi vans but never got to hear them before selling them
why would that bring them down? people not as cool owning something thats available to the masses or quality of them got worse?

I'll admit I bought into the Rainbow boner when it was "hard." I even went the cheap route because I wasn't going to buy the Germs to begin with from a brand I had never heard (SLCs). I wanted to see what they were about.

Best $150 bucks I've ever spent on a set of comps; bought some KX 4" to go with them.

I still love 'em!

A good product gets into the hands of people who have only owned bad products, and thus that good product becomes Godly.

Simple truth, Rainbow makes great products. So do other companies. It was usually the affordability of some of Rainbow's stuff, especially next to contenders like the Hertz HSK and Focal Polyglass, that helped propel that along.

As you climb up the ladder into the CAL28 land, Rainbow can really shine, but so must your wallet. They make up for the lower end that way, I guess.

I still love my Rainbow SLC 265 Kicks. I am installing some Germs active later this summer, I am expecting good things, even if they just sound slightly better than the SLCs I will be happy. The only thing is I have been told by some industry insiders that the Rainbow drivers, especially the tweeters were just rebadged Vifa and Scan Speak drivers, but that is not a bad thing at all.

seemed to work pretty well for the alpine stuff that was rebadged. no matter what price when you see those for sale here, and over on diy, they go pretty quick.

No, Scan Speak makes some of the best drivers out there, so I have no problems with it. I was only saying this because it is probably a little more expensive to buy the Rainbow parts than the direct Scan Speak parts.
