Half of stereo stolen, got $1000 to complete it - help!

I still don't get it. People put thousans of dollars on stereo gear but don't have an alarm! you should put an alarm first then buy your stuff.
Why does everyone always assume I don't have an alarm? And why do people keep bringing this point up instead of the question I asked.

Any suggestions on a one amp solution? I had a 5 channel amp before but I'm thinking at this point I just need the amp to power the fronts and 1 10" sub. If I got the kappa 10" perfect (love it before) what would be a good amp to power this and my front speakers? I'm thinking of the pioneer 780/7800 if I can find it anywhere for a head unit.

Oh and to the person who asked why the shop has to do it. Apparently they will install everything if I bring in the parts but I won't get any warranty at all. So I'm weighing my options.

When a motorist gets in a car crash, the repair shop is theirs to choose. Why can't you get the same? I would make a stink with insurance. They owe you better than that and are just trying to put one over on you. You should get to choose how and where your equipment is replaced.

something to consider is that thieves aren't stupid most of the time. 90% of people do what you are doing right this minute, replacing the stereo with a new one. Time and time again when this happens the new stereo is stolen again because the thieves watch the car for the new system to go in.

talk to your insurance company and just get the money. If you have proof of what was in there before and that is was stolen, then tell them you only want a check for $1000. They have no right to tell you to go to a certain shop or how to spend your own hard earned money, you pay them a monthly fee to get your money back in a case like this, not to let them also get a kickback from shops because they send a ton of business there. Flat out what they are doing is illegal, and you should tell them so (report to the BBB if you have to).

take your check and hold on to it (or spend it on something else). Maybe get a new HU and always take the faceplate, but dont install anyting else until at least a few months have passed and then consider a replacement for the rest of the equpiment.

btw, this happened to my friend last year. We got his receipts and photos of when we installed it all to provide the insurance company. A month or so later he got the approval and a check in the mail for the full amout he paid. That is how insurance works, not requiring you to get new equipment and installation and a perticular shop. Hell, even in body repair for accidents they can't require you to get it dont at a shop, they can only require perticular shops for a quote.

also, i think in some instances, you're stuff has to be bolted down for insurance to cover. unless you have full coverage (comprehensive?). i had my stuff jacked outta my truck 3 summers ago. turned around 1 week later and had new system installed and still bumped that shit. no problems yet. but i've had a car for a year and a half almost.

You have a contract with your insurance company. If the contract says they will pay your claims in Norwegian lottery tickets, that is what you will get. They have a right to do whatever the contract says, and the customer who agreed to it has to abide by it. It isn't illegal, no different than an HMO saying what doctor they want you to see.

I would read your insurance contract front to back and go from there.
