I have a 94 honda civic ex... and i was wondering where the best place would be to stash my h/u when im not in the car. I have a alpine CDA-7995 and i want to know where the best spot to hide it would be (the detached faceplate that is) my glove box was my first guess, but there's no lock on it >_

thnx! adam

adam, why don't you just remove the faceplate and take it with you? i'm quite sure that's what almost everyone with a detachable FP does.

i bought a nice "SoundKase" for mine from Best Buy for $6.99. they're made of a soft, thick, and super-tough material. however, because they're soft, they can fit in the average-sized back pocket without too much trouble. they're really protective too; i've dropped mine about 4 times, and have never received a scratch, or jostled the internals. they've also got a big velcro strap on the back, so you can hook it on your belt, or just about anything else.

i would recommend NOT using any sort of locking box. if a thief sees it, they're only going to want inside, that much more, and they'll just swipe the whole box. don't give them the opportunity. just carry it with you.

good luck,

...is supposed to do. when I first got mine, the first week or so I would take it with me when I got out, but now, I just keep mine inside the compartment between the driver and passenger seats. of course that defeats the purpose of detachable faces (if the thief knew the face was in there, otherwise he'd most-likely move to the next car), but I'm just lazy...

I could see if my head unit was like $200+, but it's an offbrand $100 one from best buy - nobody wants that...

I just put mine in its case, in my center console...I think the majority of potential thieves will just pass right by if it's not on there, the main thing is just to at least take it off, most of them will assume that it's not going to be left in the vehicle...

that's a terrible assumption. my wife's friend from work did the same thing; she would hide the face under her seat or in the glove box, until it got stolen. i've heard this enough times to know better. why take chances? and why does anyone consider it a pain to carry the face plate? mine carries so easily, i almost don't notice it's there. it's not heavy, or bulky, so what gives?

I see posts all the time from people who have had their detachable face decks stolen whether the faceplate was on it or not...nothing is a given when dealing with

thieves.

they are detachable for a reason, for you to take it out with you. ow it defeats the purpose of having a detachable one.

but if u insist, you can hide it under your seat or something.

Maybe everyone should just get insurance on their systems, if you can do that. That way if it gets damaged or stolen you just get your money back. But ummmm... maybe you just stuff it under the seat? I mean what theif would take the time to search the whole car for the face plate, crap, once he/she sees its off maybe they'd just move on to the next car you know.

that can be done but they do not give u any thing what it worth. And a thief will take ur shit regarless and if really what to be safe do not floss ur system.

the face is a hastle to me to carry around. even though I wear baggy pants and stuff...just doesn't feel right in my pocket; I'm the type of person who wants his hands free so pockets are my best friend - the face takes up too much room

Mine's fully insured, part of the reason I don't worry much.

were you using the plastic case most come with, or no case at all? 'cause those factory cases are a joke. they're bulky, and if you drop it, your FP will come flying out anyway.

hmmm idk. taking if with me, i might leave it someone lol! is there anychance of me makeing a custom holder that is "hidden" into the back foot well. like under the seat, cover it with the same color carpet and hide it there? or could i put it in my junk? in like a secret little place in my junk? hmm never thought about the junk before .... or maybe get a case for it, get some velcro, put soem velcro on the upperside where all the wires are underneath my streeing wheel and velcro it up there everytime? idk im just trying to think of ideas * thinking outloud* thnx for the help

yeah, if you could find a "safe", and isolated spot under your dash, that would probably be ideal. maybe nearest the driver's door. it would have to be deep in there, to completely obscure it from view. however, there are a bunch of wires, and electrical going on in there, so maybe it's not such a good idea after all. you don't wanna zap yourself, or end up ripping something up.
