H/U problem?

I put in my Eclipse 8051 last night only to find out that my panasonic head unit with a line driver put out a lot more bass. I messed with all the adjustments turning on the sub crossover and the interior speaker crossovers. I had bass on zero and loud turned off. at 75 out of 80, my sub wouldn't flex my door panels like my panasonic. I couldn't figure out what was wrong so I figured maybe I needed more gain. I set my gain between half and three quarters and smoked my sub. I guess what I want to know is why would 8 volts not even compare to my $150 panasonic with a small line driver putting out around 10 volts?

Well I figured out the problem and all I can say is I'm not happy at all. The H/U and amp are fine. I would like to thank Jacob for his knowledge because it helped in the process. It turns out the box I had was way too small. The person who gave it to me did not know the correct specs and told me it was 2 cubic feet. I won't hold a grudge though because it was my stupid *** who turned it up. I just wanted you guys to know and thanks for the help.
