H O alternator

I got an 1989 oldsmobile toronado, and just put a profile 450x2rms @2 ohms amp in it. My headlights dim severely. Once all the lights in my car shut off, and came on a sec later. Does anybody know where i can get an alternator for my car? How strong does it need to be?

Go to any local alternator shop and ask them what is available or you can goto http://www.mralternator.com/ and look at what they have. You might want to look around for information about your alternator in your car or look on it to see the specs. a 900w amp shouldnt do that unless your alternator is extreamly small.

ok well i'm glad that a newbie isn't saying "will a cap help"

yea i'm guessing u'll be safe with 120 amp alt. since profile is class A/B it will draw more current. i think 120 amp will do good.

The Toro should have a 75 amp alt already. I suspect something is wrong with it. You can get a direct replacement 103 amp from any NAPA store that should be good enough for what you're running.

remember, unless your batt is in very good condition, all alt mftrs recommend that you replace your batts too. Else it'll continue dimming as the alt struggles to charge the old batt.
