H/O Alternator

I have an MA Audio 4400 watt amp installed in my car. This shop told me that im not getting the full 4400 out of it because i dont have enough power, which i knew already. Then he tells me that in order to get the 4400, i need a 17 volt alternator cause the amp needs 17 volts. Does this sound right. and if so, where the heck do i find a 17 volt alternator?

itsgonna be tough gettin 17v outa your lectrical system... MA rated that amp at 17v for a reason, so people can buy it.

the amp doesnt NEED 17v it just wont do its rated power below that

much more logical and cost effective solution...

sell the amp and get one that will actually provide the power you want at 14v.

You will need to run a seperate charging setup for the 17v. You car accesories will fry on 17v. You will have to run dual batteries and dual alternators. Have fun with that. I seriously suggest you stick with the 12v charging setup.

agreed

cheaper and easier to sell that amp and get one that will do that power at 13-14 volts. it's hard enough getting a constant 14.4 to an amp that large, not to mention 17 volts

Here's my solution. Buy another MA Audio 4400W amp, dig a hole and throw your first amp in the ground and cover it up with the second one you just bought.

first off do you realize how loud a true 4400 watts is going to be? have you done any electrical system upgrades at all? do you realize the strain a 4400 watt amp will pose? what subs are you powering? what ohm load?
