H.o alt

Ok so I drive a 2000 dodge Dakota. 4.7l and I have some options for an ho alt one that I like is 190 at idle, 170 at hot idle. The other is 215 at idle. 190 at hot idle. I'm gonna be running close to 5k rms with 2 xs 3100 and one xs 2700 under the hood. Now what I am trying ask is would it be worth the extra two hundred to gain the 20-25 amps or would the smaller one work fine.

Yes. If I were you I would try to find a bigger alternator. I run 5k just to the subs (adding a 1k mids/high amp soon) and I lose 1v with 2x XS XP3000s and 1x XS D3400 on a 380A alternator with 3 runs of 1/0 gauge power.

If you plan on playing it daily like I do. Grab the biggest alt you can.

I haven't found any bigger. Where should I look? And that is 4k sub and 1k mids and highs
so you are at 5k total just like I am.

I lose 1 volt with my RPMs @ 2000 when music is on full tilt.

Trust me. Red lights will kill you. I have to keep my revs up at lights. That is why I am adding a 2nd alternator...somehow.

Here are a bunch of alt companies. Just start shooting them all PMs.

Mechman

DC Power

Excessive amperage

Ohio generators

Michael Singer

Tennys alternators

Iraggi

there are probably a bunch more

I was look at dc power and form what I hear you wait for it but its the best alts out there. So worth the wait. But I will look in the others. So should I be looking at 300amp at idle?
No alternator puts out 300 amps at idle. The best is in the 200s.

You could get more batts.

No such thing as "best" company. Mechman makes really good stuff. Same with excessive amperage and ohio gernators

Ok so if I could run one alt to the stereo only that does 200 at idle would that be better?Cause I can remove my ac and put an alt dedicated to the stereo
Some people do that. I'd rather just get the best alt I could and be done with it. Not worth losing A/C.

my buddy runs a dc5k with a 90amp alt and 2 xp3000's and has little to no drop at idle . . me i run 4k+ on a 240amp alt and 3 xs3400 batts. and when my system is pounding i go down lowest to 12.8 . i need bigger batts :p and yeah always go bigger on the alt if you can i dont need it but i shoulda got the 270amp for my car //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I find that hard to believe. Even if he has that battery reserve, it's not being supplied until down around resting voltage. I want vids right meow!

yeah its hard to believe man but even pounding on it for about 20 mins at idle still rests at 12.5 he has a volt meter with the leads poked right in the positive and neg on the one of the batts in back //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Oh ok, when you said "no voltage drop" I figured you meant from 14.4V or whatever the alt sits at. That's a bit more believable.

12.5 is terrible. I would never go that low
