Police shot and killed a shooting suspect early Tuesday at a Tulsa apartment complex.
Michael Buckner, 25, was pronounced dead at the scene of the Cobblestone Apartments, 7643 E. 51st St., about 2 a.m., Capt. Jonathan Brooks said.
Officers from the fugitive squad and detective division had received information that Buckner, suspected of shooting a man Sunday and dumping him in the Westminster Apartments parking lot, was staying at the Cobblestone complex, Brooks said.
While police were setting up to do surveillance and waiting for additional officers, Buckner left the apartment. When officers confronted him and told him he was under arrest, he showed a gun from his waistband.
He refused to drop the gun as instructed, so two officers shot him, fearing for their safety and the public's, Brooks said.
Police were unsure how many times Buckner was hit and how many shots were fired.
Officers are interviewing the adults who were inside the apartment where Buckner was staying, along with several children.
The two officers who shot Buckner were placed on routine administrative leave, Brooks said. After detectives finish a report on the shooting, the district attorney will decide whether the officers'
actions were justified.
Their names have not been released.
Mahdi Ouni, 22, was shot about 3:50 p.m. Sunday in a gray Chevrolet Suburban and then dumped in a parking lot at the Westminster Apartments, 4828 S. 74th East Ave.
He was taken to a hospital in critical condition, Sgt. Mike Huff said.
Witnesses told police that they saw a vehicle back into a parking space at the apartment complex and heard two shots fired, police reports indicate.
The victim then fell or was pushed out of the passenger side of the vehicle, which then drove away.
One man - the driver - was seen by witnesses, police said.
