Certainly you have a right to possess guns. What I don't understand is why you're so protective and drawn to them. You say that the only way someone could take them from you is to pry them from your cold dead hands (very original, by the way). Why is that? What is it about guns that possesses you so?

To me, it is an abnormal obsession with something potentially dangerous, which makes the obsession even more abnormal.

Fear someone is going to take something from them and they must defend it. I feel somewhat the same way. My televison is worth more than the life of a thief. If it takes killing people to protect my property, then so be it.

If I was bad enough to just kick his ass, I wouldn't need a gun except for the fact he may be armed as well. But if I believed neither party had a gun, and I could fight well, then I wouldn't need a gun.

I don't own guns, but I can justify owning a shotgun or rifle, for hunting of animals and self defense. A handgun, maybe, but handguns are made for killin', ain't no good for nothing else. But I'm sorry, no individual needs to own an AK-47 or other auto/semi-auto weapons. That's fawked up.

Its a right, and letting this right go seems to set precedence for other rights to be taken away as well.

Its also a little scary that banning firearms won't keep them out of the hands of criminals, just out of the hands of the innocent...who will have nothing but steak knives to fend off the gun toting criminals.

No individual needs to own a 5, 6, 700hp car either, but we don't see people trying to make those illegal. For some people its the sport, fun, or collection of the matter that makes cars/guns/moofers/etc their hobby

im not obsessed with guns .it was a joke do you know what that is . if i was obsessed with them i would have more then the 2 i have now witch are a colt 45 sig and a mosburg 500 hs410 lowed with dear slugs also got a 22 revolver but that's a toy . im thinking about getting another better had gun im getting kinda tired of only having an 8 shot mag in the colt but im not selling my nickle plated colt its been in my family since my grand paw bought it in 1965

There could be an instance where killing another person is warrented. Wouldn't you want to do this effectively?

I'm not arguing gun rights...everyone has a right to own whatever they wish, as ownership alone does not constitute significant danger to others. And in the event someone were to harm another person with a gun (or any other item), then they would be punished in accordance with the law. But why are people so obssessed with guns? I can list any number of things that are entertaining or useful to me, but none of them rank anywhere near the "pry it from my cold dead hands" level.

So the reason he owns a gun (or multiple guns) is because of fear? Because he believes that at any moment someone will break in and steal his possessions? I have spent a lot of time in the US and have never encountered this paranoia that warrants such obsession with gun possession.

Besides, it just brings up the "bring a bigger gun" argument. Personally, I'd rather let them take the TV because if I pull a piece on them, they may shoot me first. I'd rather let them take the TV and allow the police (and insurance) to do their job.

Things must be terrible in the US if you require a gun in your home to feel safe.

Just to further clarify things, this is not a gun-only issue. The same argument applies to any weapon. I don't believe we can (or should) prevent people from owning them, but what draws a person to collecting knives? And why would someone say that I would have to pry those knives from their cold dead hands?

We have every right to own guns...i say we should be able to own anything that the local police use...We have the right to bear arms to protect us from a corrupt govt. and/or anyone trying to harm us....

Look at Nazi Germany....the first thing Hitler did was outlaw guns so no one could revolt against him....

Fear is the reason I own a gun. I fear that some clown may take my possession and shoot me because of their fear of getting caught.

Things aren't terrible here by any means, but as a culture we are growing in suspicion and distance from one another. We build large fences to keep people out of our yards, etc. This fear is probably unwarrented. On the reverse, our social skills fall apart. I would venture to say "Back in the Day..." kids in the neighborhoods where forced into interact. Now parents see a kid snatched up somewhere else...and they force their kid to stay inside...thus social skills become limited to XBL and the internet.

Of course, but in my home, I don't think I'd need an Uzi when a 12 gauge will do just fine. Or a kitchen full of knives. Or a baseball bat.

I agree, no one needs to own a 700hp car either, but cars aren't purposefully built to kill people, unlike handguns and automatic weapons. Well, most cars aren't...

Some may argue a 12ga is overkill. You do much hunting with it?

If I had to rely on grabbing a kitchen knife, I'd grab the door handle and run away
