There are two kinds of people in this. Those that were raised around guns and those that weren't. If you were raised around them your whole life a gun is no big deal. It is nothing to fear nor do you get a huge erection holding one as someone who doesn't understand them thinks.

You don't grab a gun in each hand and several in the waistband every time you hear a bump in the night. Every time you get mad you don't run off screaming I'm getting my gun.

In the respect of necessity vs practicality it is spot on. For somebody that assumes a firearm is intended to be used as a weapon against man I can see where you wouldn't see the relationship as valid.
The majority of the posts have talked only about using them against another human being. Hunting is always the secondary conversation for the enthusiasts, for some reason.

Anything that could instantly kill another person should be feared, which is why I am apprehensive about the manner in which driver's licenses are handed out.

The question you have to ask yourself is why owning a gun to kill criminals is considered "normal" in your mind.

Like I said, come live up here with the evil socialists and your fear will evaporate.

Collecting, hunting, target + sport, personal protection, manufacture, modification... The list goes on.

I haven't hunted in years, I have target practiced and enjoy it. My guns could be used for home protection, do I really think that will ever come to be...doubt it.

I have a shotgun, an ak47, and plan to pick up a hand gun as well. If I enjoy going to the range or out in the country with some targets to play around with each firearm, does that make me wierd? Is it because I have 3 different firearms, which I have because they all are a different experience, or is it for some other reason?

And just out of curiosity are you trolling or actually don't understand why somebody with no intentions of killing someone would enjoy owning/using a firearm?

Protection can be against animals too.

People collect them because they want to. Why do you try to understand why they collect guns? Because you want to. I don't know how else it can be explained why people collect guns - power, protection, hobby - it all comes down to want on some level.

What is your opinion on collecting dead bodies?
My personal opinion on that would be that it's disgusting...that alone however shouldn't matter in terms of if it's morally right or wrong...

If the dead people confirmed before death that they would allow a person to add them to their collection and the person could prove that they would be able to do so in a sanitary manner, to prevent any type of disease outbreak, I say who gives a shit.....

Hell they have that dead body exhibit....forgot the name of it...thats basically what you're talking about....

Heh, I was just going to bring up cars and how they could be argued to be more dangerous than guns because of ease of attainability and use.

i find no need to own several guns, unless you're a hunter or something of course.

My dad has all the huntin guns at his place.

I only have one gun with me. Semi-Auto shotgun covers just about all the needs i need from a gun //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Well yes, I do wish people would be truthful. I think a rational mind can easily discriminate the difference in value between collecting baseball cards for fun, and collecting guns to have the power they provide. Feeling good because you have the power to destroy is not necessarily a feeling we should be seeking out, or endorsing.
But that feeling enables one to protect their home...that they know shooting this gun is the most effective manner to protect their home.

I am mostly trying to find out why the US has a culture of owning items whose primary purpose is to inflict damage.
Maybe because our crime rate is much higher than yours? Or maybe because we had to revolt to become independent?

Honestly i don't know...all i know is that it's better to have and not need than need and not have....
