Is this a good idea?

besides this isnt going to stop that many murders if gangsters see there are coded bullets sure homicide by guns may go down but other homicides may go up. this bill is just more pain in the *** for the law abiding citizen.

another scenario:

in the year 2011 you go buy bullets so you can go shooting legally. there is a person who would like to get some bullets that are not coded to him. he sits out front of the gun shop watching people and watching what they buy. he sees you bought ammo. he follows you...
Follow the guy who has a gun, and 80% chance he will be killed.

Pretend you're a crack fiend. You have a 50/50 ish chance (for the sake of guesstimating) of this house having bullets. You have the same chance there's a 40 year old man in his underwear with a gun aimed at your head when you walk up his stairs. And he has bullets... you might not.
Here's your problem, your trying to use common sense. Until you understand that all their worried about is getting their next fix. Or robbing someone to get some cash for their next fix, and they'll do anything to get it,you're never gonna understand. They don't use common sense, if they did they wouldn't be fiends.

Also, the average person doesn't keep 40K rounds at their house. You're going to make off with what, one or two packs?
So the question is, break into a house, or break into a store?
Once again they don't use common sense. Stores have alarms, a lot of times they have the roll down metal garage doors in front of them completely sealing them off . Atleast they do here, don't know about your area. A house is easier picking, most people don't have alarms. Even if they started robbing the stores, the stores would upgrade their alarms, etc.. Then who do you think they'll rob next? The houses.

The average gun owner has a gun for protection. They're not relying on their ears to protect them. They have alarm systems, etc, that will wake them up when gun use is a possibility/necessity.

Alarm goes off, I wake up and shoot you, or you run away.
you're assuming everyone has an alarm, not everyone does. I don't have an alarm on the house, I do have 2 pitt bulls and a bunch of guns in the house though.

Not everyone has alarms, and anyone that doesn't rely on their ears to alert them of an intruder needs to rethink their priorities.

But honestly, what criminal is going to break into a house to look for bullets?
First and foremost, you can't guarantee a random house will be the house of a gun owner.
Im sure they said the same thing when they started putting restrictions on guns, and yes you can guarantee it, wait till deer season opens up and wham, all you have to do is look for people packin GUNS into cars or wearing hunter orange, its that simple....OORRRRRR theres this option, hack wal mart or the DNR's database and you have the adress and/or amount of ammo in each adress of everyone in the state, now all you have to do is pick and choose.

First problem, people stop shooting people. Car bombs(oh wait thats another reason for Bush to look for weapons of mass destruction, funny thing is nobody every did anything about that pea sized brain of his), grenades, strangulation, stabbings, fire bombing houses, drive by bow shootings and vehiclular homicides pop up everywhere,

next problem, these are state to state, which means each manufacture/vendor will have to have a database for each state and the bullets we have stacked sky high in the ware house for ohio cant be used in michigan, now our factory is in kentucky, so instead of just shipping the surplus in ohio to michigan. We have to make brand new bullets THEN waste gas and man hours shipping all the way from kentucky to michigan instead of from ohio, think gas prices are high now???lol

next problem, everyones like just lock up your ammo, what good does it do you then if you need it

Oh and you wont have to worrie about people breakin into stores, too big a risk with camaras alarms dogs and whatever else, why break into the store and get a couple of boxes or take your time loadin a car up when you could just jack the 48 foot mac truck full of ammo AND guns while its still on the way there

next prob, the codes on the back of the bullet, which when the bullets still in the casing you cant see so they will have to come up with some other non free method of marking these shells so that law enforcement can tell the diffrence without dismantleing all of your bullets, then when they do that someones gonna get ahold of the new cases and put old bullets in them and then the cop THINKS you have new bullets but you really dont;)

next problem, you think everyone across the worlds gonna do this, hell no and just like fully auto weapons and drugs they will continue to BE LET across borders

They'll start buyen these and maken their own( LINK IS BELOW), make a mold and make their own slugs. They can also take apart a bullet take out the slugs meltem down puttem in a mold and the coding is gone. either way all their gonna do is end up fucken us and not the criminals. We can look at it from either way but in the end it's not gonna effect the criminals, just the law abiding citizens.

True, but then that will lead to more dead criminals. If they intentionally try to rob someone from thier bullets, then the owner most likely will have a gun and kill them legally. So it ballances out. Most criminals dont think anyways, so they probly wont even think about it.
you've mentioned before you're on probation

irony, you'll know it when you see it

heres food for thought......i have a friend that is a gun collector, has about thirty long guns and lots of really nice hand guns, he is a range shooter and takes his kids and wife with him for enjoyment. when he was 17 (now in his late fourtys) he got in a misdemeaner scrape with the law. since then that law has been changed to a felony, remember he was convicted of a misdemeaner, now Maryland hasnt adopted this law........but........all amunition has to be cateloged at the time of sale and a drivers license has to be presented upon purchase......here in lies the dig....some overzealous g-man in baltimore got wind that this guy was buying lots of amunition so to see what he had they didnt check the court records only the ncic sheet and came to arrest him for being a convicted felon in posession of amunition.......imagine their suprise when he opened his locked gun safe and they saw that catche of weapons....needless to say they took all his guns and amo and found old smoking devices and away he went to the slammer. i personally know this guy and he is the farthest thing from what they have portrayed him as being... as far as i am concerned this is wrong and an invasion of privacy let alone breaking into his home to conduct their search while he was at work.......calling him home from work to open the safe....while all his neighbors are watching the state county and federal authorities roust his home..........so far they havent given his guns back and his attorney fees are climbing.......is this what the government of a free nation should be doing.........i think not.....FTATF

Im for anything that helps catch criminals that shoot people.
It will not hurt any responsible gun owners either so why not

You can say it won't hurt gun owners, but it will. Prices of bullets will go up... and blah blah blah.

If someone steals bullets from you, and you don't realize it. (say you have a stockpile of 100 bullets and someone takes 5-10, odds are you won't realize it) Then shoots someone... you're at fault even though you weren't there.

IMO I think it's a cute notion... but I don't think it's worth anything. If you kill someone, odds are you don't care about the law or the reprocussions.

This bullet accountability thing just won't work.

They will never be able to have a system to track every single bullet.

They would need a MASSIVE database network.

it will never happen.

don't bullets have rifling on them that they can determine it wasn't used from your gun? Unless the robber stole your bullets, and gun together, then you are fvcked
