GUN Enthusiasts, Come!!

If the topic is home defense, a pistol should be the first weapon purchased, not a rifle. Id chose a shotgun second, rifle third. That would be for living in an urban setting.

Camo's painted up like your wallpaper is always a good idea too.

actually a 12 gauge is the ultimate choice for hd
If a sawed off was legal, Id tend to agree.
Oh to someone earlier, silencers aren't legal either, nor would you want one for 'home defense'. Are you going to assassinate the burglar? Why not just knife him in the back for teh humiliating pwnge? Step out of the Quake mentality.

say your grandpa dad or a good friend has a pistol and they want to "give it " they can and nothing is illegal with it, or say you live in florida and i was selling one of my 9mm. and you wanted it, had cash in your hand, i wright up a bill of sale for my pistol verify youre over 18 and hand you the gun with bill of sale and i go about my day with it being within the law
doesnt a foid card go along with this?

Wrong. They are legal in most states.

$250-$900, plus a $200 federal tax stamp.

Google "silencer for sale" http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=silencers+for+sale&aq=3&oq=silencer

I would use one to save my hearing.

What's "quake menatlity"?

Save your hearing? That's a pretty ironic statement, not even considering its on a car audio forum.
You are correct silencers are not illegal, but they are very difficult for the average person to get legally. While they are obtainable, its a more thorough process than simply paying a couple fees. Including a background check, and application with the ATF. Im guessing this will include giving a reason why you require a silencer as a private citizen. Im confident they, if approached with the idea you want to be able to shoot at home invaders without risking hearing damage, would conclude that the sound of the firearm is a useful tool in a home invasion. Scaring off the intruder, and alerting neighbors or family members would be 2 examples.

The Quake mentality is thinking this is a game where you will WANT to confront the intruder. If faced with such a situation, most people would rather scare the intruder away rather than risk an actual confrontation. Are we trying to protect our home and our family, or just kill the bastard for daring to enter your home?

It makes no difference full size- sawed off. A 12 gauge shotty is best hands down. By the way 26" is the legal limit That is overall length. Pretty **** small. Oh yeah who said it would come down to killing them. You rack a 500 or 870 and if they hear it and still decide to stay then you have a problem and know they mean business.

I make my living as an audio engineer so protecting my hearing is paramount to preserving my livelyhood. You don't shoot to "scare" an intruder or "alert" the neighbors. You shoot to stop the threat. Keep shooting until the threat is stopped. If there is no threat, you dont' shoot just to "scare" or "alert".

Our friend in chicago above also has to submit to an anual background check and a pile of application forms just to own any firearm.

It's not difficult. They are becoming quite popular as people realize the benefits and ignore the stereotypes.

Im not going to argue with you over a gun issue. You are entitled to your opinion.

I never suggested you shoot just to scare or alert. But you will certainly obtain those results.

Do you think every audio professional in the US has a need/right for a silencer, should they chose to own a firearm? What about musicians? Air traffic controllers? People who have wives who are very cranky when woken in the middle of the night? That kid who 'tunes' car stereo's down at your local BestBuy? Or just you?

Can you show any evidence that, god forbid, if you were involved in an isolated incident like a home invasion where gun fire occurred, that substantial concern over permanent hearing damage is likely, or even possible? Ive fired plenty of guns with no hearing protection on. Are my ears unusually tough, or have I ruined my chances of becoming an audio engineer?

I guess if the intruder has a gun with no silencer, you can kiss your career goodbye. Or if a mugger in the street demands your wallet or he'll shoot, you'll be thinking 'oh god cover my ears!'. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif
