gun control?

I just recieved a flyer requesting we not increase gun control because of the VT shootings. While this should normally be an unexpected event, well, here's what the flyer says:

It links gun control to:

1) the Aremenian Genocide/ Armenian Holocoust in 1915-1917

2) Stalins mass murdering of 20million fellow Russians

3) The Japanese attack on China, the Nanking Massacre

4) The holocaust

5) genocide in Cambodia, Guetamala, and Uganda.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for carrying guns if you're using them for your occupation, hunting, security, but claiming that so many people were murdered because their governments didn't allow them to have weapons? I think that's a little extreme.

That is so ridiculous. I think the gun control laws are too strict already. We live in a country with 300 million people, of mixed races and cultures from all over the world. People WILL kill each other. Regardless if the weapon is a 9mm or a butter knife.

so how come the murder rate in england and japan combined is less then the city of detroit?

you can't sit there and say the murder rate in the US is normal

If just one of those 30+ people had a gun, then there would have only been 1/3 of those people dead. imo

you can't sit there and say the murder rate in the US is normal

People in the US are more violent than people abroad in categories that don't always involve shooting.

Our country was founded on buring witches at the stake. We are a violent country with access to violent weapons.

i agree, but there should be better ways to keep guns out of the hands of violent people, but that'll probably be hard to do

we had a little gun control theroy at my buddys house one night. one of our friends went out and bought an airsoft pistol and no one at the house really knew. once he realized we couldnt really defend ourselves he shot the shit out of us.

the next night the rest of us went out and bought them. not a shot was fired at another person that night because everyone knew if they shot someone they would get lit up themselves.

i think everyeone should carry guns in plain sight. what kind of person is going to shoot someone when they know everyone around them is strapped?

Just because I have a gun doesn't mean I could shoot it. Even if they were going to harm me, I would feel terrible if I killed someone.

This country has an entirely different culture than the two mentioned countries. You can't expect that we are going to be similar to them by having the freedoms we have in this country. I'm not saying that it's "normal" or even "acceptable" for events such as the VT shooting. But I will accept the risk of the random shooting every few years in order to live in this country.
