Grounding to the battery?

I know that this could sound really stupid... I have a chevy cobalt, and the battery is located under the floor of the trunk (makes install really nice and easy)... Is there any reason why I shouldn't just ground my system straight to the negative terminal on the battery?

did what right? ran ground wire from amp to either the battery terminal or chassis? theres no wrong way. if its grounded its grounded! if it all works it works! there no gray matter here its either black or white!

no sorry guys... i thought i was ok, didn't mean to waste anyone's time... just didn't know if there was some crazy reason that going straight to the battery was bad...

yea seriously lol... I've tried to explain that to so many people... people get into arguments with you about that (I guess it just looks funny to them or something)... But hey, as long as it's not my car right lol
