Grounding an amp

I have two amps in my car, both are new. I installed one three days ago for all my speakers in the car and works great. Today, I got my subwoofers that I had ordered online, so I installed my second amplifier for those subs, and they work great also. The only problem I am having is when I hit a bump in the road, my amp for the subs goes into protection mode. I've searched and searched, and the only thing I've read that could be causing this is the ground. I have the ground made about 6 inches away from the amplifier. I drilled into the chassis of the vehicle, just like I did with my other ground, sanded it really well with a mini-power sander and tightening it up with a washer and a screw. Is it possible that this is really whats causing my amp to go into protection on any bump? This doesn't happen to the amp I have connected to my speaker. Reason i don't have them both connected to the same ground is because I read that the ground should be close to the amp, and both grounds are on the opposite side of the trunk (one on passenger side, one on driver's side.)

I moved my ground to the same spot as the other, but I'm still having the same problem. Its starting to seem like it isn't a ground problem.

Does anyone have any ideas at all? It just goes into protection mode on every bump.

not really sure. i had this same problem with my sony so i had to shut the car off and turn it back on to get it out of protect and that only worked some of the time. and then like a week after i started having that problem the amp just blew out completly...dont know what the problem is but good luck.

I agree with fasfocus, It's probably a short in the speaker wires and every time you hit a bump the positive and negative touch or something, check your speaker wires and see if that doesn't fix the problem.

Before you go thinking the amp is screwed up you want to check out all possibilities. Shit, just the other day my amps were stuck on protection mode, someone on this site told me it was the battery dying, and guess what a car audio shop told me? (Blown amps)

Glad I listened to someone on the site //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
