Grounding a second battery

When grounding a second battery in your trunk is it necessary to give it two grounds like the one under the hood or should only one ground be OK?

Grounding the battery serves the benefit of both the external components and the battery, not just the battery. So if you stuck 1 16 awg and ground it to the chassis, would it suffice? Understand the concept, then ask the appropriate question.
