What does the ground wire look like? I hear that your meant to put it on a headunit's metal back. I think it's the black wire but there is one in the headunit harness that connec's directly to the headunit and not the metal.

Use the harness wire. And yes, it should be black with no tracers.

the headunit harness has a black ground wire which could be grounded to the chasis, battery, or wire harness, the first 2 are recommended

what the hell are you talking about? there should be a black wire in the radio harness. ground it. is this an aftermarket headunit?

Yeah it's a aftermarket headunit. The harness connects to the headunit with the ground wire in it, so that means the ground wire connects directly INTO the headunit.
