Gotta fix my ground... Will this work?

I'm going to fix my ground for my amps, since I believe it's the reason why my subs keep cutting out. If I just straight up disconnect the ground from the chassis, will that be fine? Or should i unhook the battery first, then do that? I'm a little paranoid about this stuff, so any help would ease my paranoid mind greatly!

Yes you will be fine disconnecting your amps ground and fixing it since when disconnecting your amp it goes - then + so you'll be good, but if you wanted for any added precaution disconnect your battery that's fine.

I also disconnect battery for safety. Might not be necessary, I do.

Always remove the ground wire from a battery first. If you remove the + wire with ground still connected and accidentally touch your wrench from + to ground you could hurt yourself badly.

My battery is a side terminal thing stuffed into a tight spot and removing the cables is a pita. The fuse for my system is very accessible however, so I just pull it out when working on the amp. Easier for me.

This is correct, you always want to remove ground first and connect it last, but what difference does it make which side is disconnected if you touch + to ground?

Edit: Thought about it some more, at first I thought you were talking about only the posts. But by ground you meant anywhere. Got it.

I like to disconnect the positive on the amp and then touch it on the negative battery terminal. It's cool looking.
