Got to love the smell of fried equipment in the morning!

i'm surprised that the 85 amp fuse didn't blow. you need a bigger one with that amp
I thought the same thing.....although it says you DO NOT need a fuse on the power lead, i threw the 85 amp fuse on there just as a percaution. It worked fine for two weeks. same settings same everything. I just dont get it. i thought right as i hooked up the amp that 85 would blow....but it never did.

And how can an amp fry from low voltage??

x2
cold morning too...
Yeah it was a little cold i guess...like 20.....but i was running it a week ago when it was like -20 out.

so do you guys think that the hood fuse, the 85 amper, wasnt allowing the amp to recieve the proper ammount of power? Because i thought the amp would draw the power needed and just blow the fuse. For example, i use to have an amp that had two 30 amp fuses, i didnt have a 60 amp fuse for my power lead, so i threw in a 40 amp fuse.....after bumpin for like a minute, the hood fuse blew.....naturally as the amp was drawing more power.....so i dont understand how that 85 amp fuse could hurt....it should just blow right????

no no no... we mean as in not enough power period. cold batts = less juice

going below 11 volts imo is a no no...

what does your charging system consist of?

This might be one of those things that you won't be able to figure out until AQ gets it back for repair. Like others said, 85a fuse is way too small for that big of an amp, but you said AQ doesn't need a fused power wire so I don't think the 85a fuse was the problem. Maybe something rattled loose inside the amp or it was just a faulty amp? AQ will probably have the answer for you either way.

Big 3 with just a normal batt. Havent had the money to upgrape that yet. 105 amp alt.....and 4 gauge power and ground wire to the amp!

first, the 3 fuses on the amp protect the amp from short curcuits. The fuse near the battery is to protect the power wire from shorts from the bat to the amp. A 85 amp fuse is good for like 5-6 awg. So if your running say 4awg, you should get a bigget fuse.

And as far as low voltage, when an amp does not recieve the proper voltage, it can blow. Usually it will just shut off, (protect) then come on again when voltage is restored to operating specs.

You said you did the big 3? what size alt do you have? or year/car?

105 amp alt.....Big 3 with 0/1 gauge.....and its a 1995 buik regal....ha ha

i highly doubt the 85A fuse was a problem... if it was causing too much resistance it would of blew, which also means you werent even using all 1200 watts.. probaly just a flaw in one parts in the circuitry.. shit happens....

could it be something else, sure.. but thats my guess..

that should be fine for what your running. Did your lights dim alot when you were running it?Also having the heat, headlights , wipers, will drain alot out of the alt.
The alt is basically brand new.....i know that doesnt really mean squat, but after i did the big 3, all the dimming went away that was present before....all my interior lights are brighter as well, so i dont think it is my circut all together.....i only had the heater on in my car, but that is basically always on because minnesota SUCKS....
