Got My New Sub (SPG-555) :)

^^you should like it a lot more once you bump up the power if it's anything like the G5's are. I believe the G5 is rated at 450 rms and Ive been pushing mine with about 600 and they can still take quite a bit more. I'm going to throw some more power at them and see how they do //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
u got 2 g5's? i still could go back and get 2 g5s but the box they have is too small so id have to order it and i think i like my 555. its not loud enough with the power im hitting it with tho :/. and do you know what i should set my subsonic filter at? its just above 20hz atm.

what do you have your subsonic filter at? Mines just above 20Hz.
And right now with 500w going to it its not too loud. But I heard my same setup with 1200 watts going to it and the thing slammed. And I gotta see if it's the 4 ohm or 2 ohm voice coil. The guy gave me 1 of each or 2 of the same one I'll have to check.
What do you mean? And what did the BA rep say when they were telling you parts for the G5 would not be available?

Why is the SPG Ovular?
To fit it in spaces where 10" woofers can go and 12" woofers can't, but still retain the 'surface area' a bit larger than a conventional 12" woofer. Sort of like Kicker's square concept, except this is for fitment.

Which is exactly what I needed.

That's a pretty clutch design //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

plus the boston dealers were telling me the spg is super accurate, and has the tightness of a 10in woofer but the output of over a 12. pretty cool sub imo //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif. and all the square subs that are out dont have any SQ, this design is for SQ but still pumps some spl.

Meaning he said that there was a 2ohm vc in the sub and he said hed give me the 4ohm vc for it in case i wanted to switch. but i checked last night and theres a 2ohm vc in the sub and he gave me an extra 2ohm. so basically i have an extra 2 ohm voice coil in case the 1 in it fries.

Why did you not just go with 2 10 inch G5'S with the radiators the box would have been same size or smaller than the spg box, and had more output. I like the SPG though very neat sub and changing voive coil on them is the easiest thing ever. I am on the Boston bandwagon now though seems everything they make is top notch.

um how are u gonna change the vc if u dont recone the sub? LMAO

idk though all the guys in there said the 555 was more accurate and its still current. also he said the 555 in a ported box would be louder than 2 g5's in a sealed box which i was going to get. but he did you would feel 2 g5's a bit more just because of the more surface area.
but i rly liked the sound of the 555. they were explaining to me how the oval shape has the tightness of a 10 but the output of a 12. pretty cool sub imo.

Fyi, 18's can have the "tightness" of 8's, and 8's can have the output of 18's. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

So.. the tightness of a 10? Nothing makes a ten "tighter" than a 12, and the only thing that gives a 12 more output is cone area.

He was feeding you bs, whether or not he actually believed what he was saying is another story.

The box determines much of the drivers "tightness", not the size of the cone.

Edit: Icweiner got to it before I could; I just elaborated on it lol.

read up on the sub you can change the voice coil without reconing the sub it unscrews from the cone. Also the G5 can be reconed in less than 5 minutes also. Boston makes very neat stuff.
