Got most of the gear for my system...could use a little advice on the little things.

So as the title says...after much research, I finally have most of the major components for my system. The system is going into a 2000 cherokee xj...

For starters...ill list the amps I currently have (Thinking about changing...based on suggestions)

- JL XD400.4

- JBL GTO-5EZ

Front speakers:

- JL c5-650 components

Rear speakers:

- Polk MM651UM (these are actually marine speakers but using them for ease of install, as they have built in crossovers and tweeters mounted on the grill.

Sub:

-Polk SR124 DVC - in 1.30 cu.ft. sealed box with rhino lining.

(Considering picking up a Polk SR104 SVC if this is too loud for my taste...then this sub will be for sale)....I'll prob run the sub at 4 ohms....so i assume just ignore the other set of (+/-) voicecoil

Not looking for a heavy base setup...just good balanced sound quality.

Headunit:

- Kenwood KDC-X997

I'd like to know the best way to hook up the system....

So far this is what I'm planning...

From the headunit I will run 5 rca cables to the amp...from the amp, I will run 14 gauge speaker wire to the designated speakers...4-6 gauge for the sub.

The power will run from battery with ground (frame) and fuse to the amp...

Bare with me guys as this is my first install...ever...

Now when connecting the harness for the head unit....should I just install all the wires. If I remember correctly...using RCA's will bypass the speaker wires on the harness?

Anyways, let me know how this sounds OK...if its worth doing a build thread with pics I may do one, but I feel that my set up seems pretty plain jane...

I will be adding some damping in the front doors and poss. making mounts for the rear speakers...the polk MM's will not allow me to use the factory grills thus you can see the mounting holes, where the factory grills clip into. So need to make a mount that is big enough to cover the holes and fit the speakers......5" thick - 8" outer dia. 5.5" inner dia.

4 channel amp check out PPI or MB Quart Onx4.80. Sub amp, check out Audioque 2200D paired with SSA GCon wired down to 2ohms. Buy your wires from KnuKonceptz and you should be ok. Any change left over, buy yourself a milkshake.

Don't just run 1 voice coil wire it to two ohms and turn the gain down if it is too loud for you or buy the svc and use it at 4 ohm. The sub isn't goin to be too loud anyway it's a sq sub made to blend with the front stage.

I've realized that I do not have very much room for an amp...I'd like to not put it behind the seat as I will be folding it down and things will always be needing that space.

So would i be safe to power the polk sr124 subs with 2 channels from JL XD400, the other 2 channels would go to the front components and run the rear speakers off the headunit.

On the head unit harness, if you're not going to use the speaker wires you don't need to hook them up. If you think some day you will use the internal amplifier then connect them to the harness. Neither way is right or wrong.

Forget about marine speakers in the car. You can use standard coaxials and keep the factory grilles.

Don't sell the sub if you think it's too loud. Just turn the sub level down when you want it quieter.

The power will run from battery with ground (frame) and fuse to the amp...
I don't understand this part. You can and should upgrade the battery to frame ground if it's smaller than 4 ga. The amplifier(s) will be grounded near where you install them.

You can wire the coils on the sub in parallel and have a 2 ohm load. This will work fine on the sub channel of the GTO-5EZ. You'll have 500W available, which is adequate for 1 of those subs. You don't need to use the XD400.4 if you're tight on space.

Alright, I think I am going to sell the polk sr124 and purchase a sr104....this is strictly for room and space as I was originally going to go 8"...i suppose I wont save a ton of space...but feel that it will be a lot more compact vs the 12.

If anyone is interested in the polk sr124, please message me. It is obviously brand new as my system is still a work in progress...I will only take payments in form of paypal, where the buyer and seller have protection. Thanks.

In my opinion your thinking too much. I think your in decent shape with what you have I would at least try the 12 for now. Trumpet is dead on with his advice the 5 channel amp is all you need to run what you have. The marine speakers are fine thjey just say the only diff between Marine and auto is the Marine speakers can be used in an application where water is present. If you need any other stuff on the Polk gear PM me I have a couple contacts that may have some stuff for a better price. I have a DB 10-4 old school sub that you may like if the 12 is too big.

Due to space being tight, I was trying to see if I could get away with using only the JL xd400 amp. The JBL is a lot bigger....twice the size atleast.

With the JL XD400, I would just amp the front components. For the subs, I'm seeing it will do: 200 watts rms bridged @ 4 ohms.

Is this setup reasonable? Or am I just going down a dirty road....Is it worth me selling these 2 amps and getting a JL XD 700.5?

I would prefer an amp that can fit in the compartment - accessed by flipping down the rear seats. (this space is somewhat cramped and holds the jack and lug wrench on the passenger side)

I'll take some pics tomorrow...to show the amps vs the space I have.
