got an internship at a car audio shop =]

Sunroof installs = moneySecurity products = money

Being a mobile tech = money

Upholstery = money

Car audio is just something that keeps shops busy when they're not busy making real money. Unless, as states above, you get to a point where you're doing very large custom installs.
I was just going to mention that as well. Most shop's income is from things other than audio. Phone kits, back up sensors & cams, baby cams, hardwiring gps units & phone chargers, I pod integration, etc.

Get to know these well. You can make good money doing sidework once you get better at installing products. Pay attention to how cars come apart. I would keep a little notebook with you. I been working at shops for 2 years and still do.

The shop I worked at in highschool, which was 4or 5 years ago in the heart of the xm and siruis craze, we would do 10 hard wire satellite radio installs in a day; average about 30minutes to an hour depending upon the vehicle, and charge some ridiculous price for them. big money.

I think that, in the two years i worked there, we'd probably do a couple door speaker installs a week, one or two headunit installs a day, and MAYBE one complete substage a week. the rest was security, video, satellite radio, and other electronic facets of the aftermarket world.

i think that systems (substages) had become so common, most people could do it on there own or had friends that could. however, some security systems are pretty confusing even when you've done quite a few of them, so those never really get done outside of a shop.

If it makes you feel any better, people who want to get on at hedge funds without proper connections work at minimum wage. ie top 3 people in your graduating class (college, not HS), yet the best you can get at a hedge fund is 5.20/hr in a salaried position.

Working a few hours for free to gain some good experience is not a bad idea.

Im not putting anyone down. Ask around, owning and working at a Car Audio shop doesnt make bank. You really only make money when your doing full custom stuff and have built up a solid reputation and are getting high spending customers. IE. WCC, Gas, Unique.
Or by being a great salesperson, great dealer rep, etc. To think car audio is limited to just installs is very shortsighted.

ive been into electronics since i was like 4, and into car audio since i was 12..i deff know what im doing for the most part (still got lots to learn)

and know most of the science behind it (like i said, still alot to learn)

but this will be a great learning experence for me i think..

i mean, im 16, and i have already had 2 show winning systems and im working on 2 more right now.. so i think ill be okay =]
wow you're special.

Some people here would put you to shame.

Can it youngin'

lol sorry buick but last summer i worked at an office and made 14.50 an hour on weekdays and $105 an hour saturdays..

i work 2 full time jobs in the summer..

i work at a school cleaning for 9 bucks an hr 40 hrs a week and i work at a resutant cooking for 8 an hr.. it does me well.. pays for insurance and my car audio hobby

im leaving in about 10 minuted togo there..

ill take pics and do a new thread on it when i get home at like 3:30

n buick, how long ago was it where you made 7 an hr.. minimum wage is still only 7.15..

i just luck out w/ jobs and like to make monies =]

WANTED: Ambitious hard-working kid who has a future but is willing to work for free in order to learn some really cool things.

If some business owner posted that ad, it would not draw in the best of the best by a long shot. The guy who is getting snoopysnooper as an intern is just as lucky to have such a good teen as snoopysnooper is lucky to get OJT in something he thinks is a blast, car audio. Hopefully ol' snoop does a knockout job and quickly goes from unpaid intern to valued team asset at the shop he's at. Highly motivated workers who are intelligent, interested and hard-working do not grow on trees. Money is easy to find compared to good workers. The really valuable capital of a business is it's HUMAN capital.

You'll do just fine in life snoop!

Rick
