What about port area? Do HT boxes need more port?

Because I had a bandpass with a 12 in it that I built and in the car it JAMMED... In my room though it was still loud but I got a bunch of port noise, where there was none in a car.

looking at all the ht subs that come with a box.. even 15s etc they don't seem to need much port area.. it should fire back or down though.. and placement makes a ht sub Idk if you know that.. so you need to find the best place to put it after you build a box.. throwing in one spot will not do.. even if the first spot sounds good move it around.. along with the lpf and power.. you will be tweaking that for a few days of playing..

with only 300w you don't need all that port area.

A single 6" would be adequate.

Even at 500w with a single 6" you should not run any risk of port noise until you get to 20hz at full power.

x2, and with a 6ft^3 box tuned to 20hz you'll need that port to be ~28" long anyways...a pair will need to be 50" long each in the 7ft^3 @ 20hz box.
