Got a DC dealer in town..

MSRP on a SA 12 is $249, so not far off a lvl 3.
$250 isn't close to $360, considering the $360 sub is a 10" and not 12".

I am pretty sure if you call Thor or any other DC rep, you can get them much cheaper than msrp as well.
That's the thing though, if you're within X amount of miles from a shop that sells DC(which the OP obviously is), DC won't let you buy new from them. OP is SOL with the high prices.

anyone on these forums who knows the direct prices will NEVER pay the prices at a shop
i know I wont...woofersetc has the sa's for 190 and that includes the warranty

No you cannot, If you have a dealer within a 50 mile radius you have to buy from that dealer, you cannot order direct
this...and this is why I am no longer considering DC (at least new), because there are comparable subs for half the cost, such as the sundown...If i had a lot of money, then sure, why not support the little corner shops...but my budget is 400 for 2 subs on my next build.....and once again, nothing against dc at all. Rustys policies are probley going to allow this local shop to do fairly well....that said, at least in my case 190>360$

Look at Sundown. The SA 12 is like $180 or whatever. The recone kits for the SA-12 are only $30. I bet the motor is about $90-$100 and the rest is profit. Jacob just isnt greedy.
If they're US made maybe, but if those motors come from China there is NO way they're costing $90-100.

Wow....that's a crock of shiat. When you go to buy a new vehicle at the dealership....they undercut each other constantly, and you never pay MSRP. And they are all factory authorized. What is it with electronics. There has to be this magical 300% markup to make profit?

i suppose so...this shop could drop the price to 250, and probley still make a fair profit, and thats a much more acceptable price. Even at 250, its still quite a bit more then direct, so must be even quite a bit more above dealer cost

Thats what I mean.....there is no need for massive markup to make profit. Anyone that is business savvy knows it is better to sell lots at a lower price than it is to sell little at a higher price. Hence the Sundown.

The local shops have to charge that much though to keep their shops in business, that is the way it works. I feel DC should just offer direct pricing to everyone. As I said, anyone that knows the direct vs dealer prices is not going to pay dealer prices. So it is not like Rusty is doing his ships many favors by doing this, he is losing his company business overall.

x2, people would be surprised to know how much companies pay for subs, let alone how much it actually costs to make. Just consider that said company has a 150-200% markup(ie: buys for $100 and sells for $250-300), and they buy it from someone who did probably around a 75-100% markup in order to sell at $100.

Obviously these figures can vary, but this is not an unthinkable exaggeration when dealing with high end companies who charge a pretty penny for their products.

Laffer curve theory, it essentially means that less actually is more...

Look for used DC and you can get a Level 4 15" for $200 shipped to you in new condition.
i would, but the reason I am even rebuilding is because I got a new car and cannot fit a 15 unless it fires up. Otherwise I would just run my Treo SSi 15.
