loll
its more like I know wut I want .
I want something that would sound good first of all, Looks good and doesnt take much space ! The surround on those 3" looks way to good/beefy and will match with the room (size I have to work with)...and Aura is known for SQ with their NRT technology...also, u get wut u pay for.
So i dont really mind spending on good stuff..
The thing that is pissing me off is crossover setting and amplifier receiver all those things..
This is what I would do. Think hard on how big you can make your speakers
and see if a normal midwoofer will fit into your plans. You want to use the midwoofer for normal midrange and woofer duty. There is nothing interesting
about the $20 Aura 3" midwoofers.
*sensitivity is dog at 80dB.
*Xmax is 3 mm... so?
*Aluminum dome. Probably the worse recipe for midrange SQ. The best SQ
comes from paper treated cones, esoteric cones like Kevlar, magnesium, aluminum, have
nasty breakup modes and you can't operate those up to 3khz.
*NRT neodymium magnet system - Neo magnets are cool, but a moot issue
really. Neo offer high magnetic field in smaller size than other magnets, but
we aren't concerned with magnet size are we? Given the fact that they
use neo and their sensitivity is 80dB, that tells me it's a poor design.
A good SQ recipe is to find a dome tweeter that can hang with a 2khz crossover point,
if your dome can do 1500hz - 1700 hz with a steep slope, this opens the doors to allow
you to consider the esoteric cones, otherwise you need treated paper cone mids if you want
ultimate SQ.
A cone treated 4" NSB (49 cent driver buyout from PE, now soldout) would
probably perform just as good as those Aura drivers, perhaps better.
$3 (six) NSB + $5 lacquer > $240 Aura. Port the NSB for bass extension.
That is money spent wisely.
I'm sure you can make this system work using Aura drivers, I'm sure
I could too, but there has to be a more efficient way to get the job done.
Here is the new McIntosh array using what appears to be a bunch of Aura drivers.

Sixty-Four 2" Titanium Midranges
Here's the sad part of the design -> 2.8V/1m: 89dB
110 drivers and they can only manage 89dB sensitivity.
My budget line array is rated for 104dB sensitiivity. LOL
Just because McIntosh uses Aura mids doesn't make them smart designers.
If you can 'go big', pm me for a recipe idea {TM, MTM, TMM}
