Good Subwoofer and Amp for Mazda 3 Sedan

I have an old 12" Polk Audio sub/enclosure along with a Polk Audio amplifier (PA880). My son just got a new Mazda 3 sedan with the Bose sound system. I was going to give him my sub/amp, but his trunk is pretty small. What do people recommend as far as "good quality" sub speaker(s) and amp? I was thinking about doing a dual 10" enclosure. Fosgate, Kicker, others? I am willing to spend up to about $750 for the right setup. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
