Good single sub for a taurus

Friend of mine is looking for me to build his a system. He has a HiFonics 1200W amp (at 1 ohm, 900 at 2 ohms) And is looking for a simgle sub in a SEALED enclosure. Either a 12" or a 15". Based on experience, does anyone have any recommendations? I am going to have him buy a 4ohm DVC when he does purchase the sub, so it will need about 900w rms or close. This will be going in the trunk of a 2001 Taurus, and he wants to "be louder than most of my friends" LOL Budget for the sub is about 250

Thanks!

15" Brahma d.1(basically same as RE XXX with stiff spiders instead of soft)-->$280+ship

12" Eclipse Titanium d.4 --> $110+ship

Let me know if either are of interest..

DOH forgot to mention, he is kind of a fanboy, so if it inst a well known sub then he will not have any intrest... If it were me, 1. It would be PORTED, and 2. Would prolly be from Fi LOL

Hmmm, just get the Brahma and slap SONY sticker on it. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

LMAO nice! His original speaker choice was an Alpine 12" Type R. Is that any good in a sealed box? Id kind of like to see him put a 15" in there just for giggles haha

god..i hate when people who know nothing about car audio are so unflexible when it come to a person who knows a lil something and gives suggestions...get him on youtube and show him some vids of some real subs

i have a 2003 taurus, from my experience from doing numerous installs in my car a single sub setup with lots of power works great. I run a single audioque hdc315 in a chambered t-line. now it really depends on what he wants as loud, but if he wants sealed then hes gonna have too do more than a single sub. if he can do ported then either 2 12's or 1 15. here is a pic of my box for 1 15

this would be the way to go, 1 15 ported and as much power as possible!

nice lookin box man!! I wish I could talk him into ported, but he inst interested for some reason.. What are the dim's of that box if you dont mind me askin?

Tell him that if he wants to be loud he needs to open up to other idea's. I had a few friends in the same boat, until they sat in my trunk taurus, and realized how quiet their subs are.

Now they will do whatever I tell them! But I agree with what was said above, 1 15 ported with as much power as possible is the best bet. With that hifonics is only real option is a 15 Q ported (since the hifonics is probably closer to 900@1ohm), or two lower end twelve's.

I have yet to see which would be louder in my taurus, 2 12's sealed with 2000 watts(new mags), or 1 15 ported with 2000. We'll see

ill take some measurments tongiht and let you know, i am trying to post some vids right now of the sub in action! It definitely gets loud and low.

The biggest problem is keeping the box small enough to allow the bass to get back into the cabin without removing the rear deck. a box for 2 12's sealed would be ok but 2 12's ported would be too big IMHO. Thats why i chose 1 15 also single sub setups in my taurus have always been louder for me.

allllright, I FINALLY got him talked into TWO of the Type R's. Since he bought the amp before the subs (1200 W HiFonics) It made that decision a bit easier for him when I informed him that 900w is a BIT too much for a 500w RMS speaker LOL....

So, here is the box I will be building for him:

Amp will be recessed into the face (could not get sketchup to work with me on that for some reason haha)

And it will be built to fit his trunk as best I can without the car sitting in my driveway (he lives 120 miles away)

To get everything on the face of the box is going to be a TIGHT fit!! But thats what he wants
