Hi, my first post here //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif I'm completely newbie to the whole car audio game, but I'm learning. My friend works at best buy so he gets me mad discounts on a lot of this stuff. The bad thing is that it limits me in the options I have, but they have a decent inventory I guess :/ Anyways, after asking a lot of ppl and doing a hell-o-lotta research, I've came up with the following. BTW, I've heard the controversy with the whole overpower your subs is better then underpower them, my friend seems to agree with his from his experience with subs. He says the Alpine type-r's are under-rated and so are the alpine amps, so I don't know. Ok, drum-roll please... the setup!

Alpine Type-r 12" 4ohm

Alpine PDX-1.600

Atrend - 12" Single Ported Subwoofer Enclosure

Is the setup ok? Is the amp perfect for the sub? Would I need a capacitor for this setup? This will be installed in a new 2008 vw wolfsburg. My friend also said to get a ported box since these will die within the year if they are in a sealed box. He had a pair, and he has another pair now because of sealed box, so I'm going off of experience here.

If it's not on the Best Buy website, I can't get it lol //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

I have the following options if I need a capacitor:

At first I was supposed to get 2 type-r's. He is able to get 2 12" type-r's 4 ohm with dual ported box for $240.

I'm in westlake, ohio.

So anyhelp on the other 24082358 questions? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

Nah, i'm only getting one type-r. I think it will be more than enough for me, at least for now //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif How much would a box cost to build. Again, I know little of this stuff, so building a box is ...hard.

Hmm if you were closer to Cincy I could have helped you in building a box. There are many people on this site that could build you one and ship it your way. Dont know if it will be cheaper or not. Also how much would the 1 12", box and amp cost through your friend?

It is easy to build I built one my first time and it was way easier than i thought.

sheet of mdf- 26 bucks

tite bond II wood glue- 2 bucks

box of screws-3.50

I would get a hifonics amp if you are trying to get something cheap that is good. about 1000rms.

I kinda wanna stick with alpine. I would just rather have the box professionally done. I really don't wanna mess anything up and be throwing money away. I was just in pittsburgh for the weekend haha.

Have some one here build one. It will sound alot better. The alpine amp is good just overpriced. But what price can he get you that amp for?

That's what I'm trying to find out right now. I know that price can make all the difference right now.

There are guys on here that will build you a box. You just pay for materials and shipping. Good luck. Do some research. Don't just jump on this stuff right away if you're a newb. It'll end up costing you more in the long run.

Will do. This is for my birthday in january so I got time. My friend is also paying for it, but I don't wanna just make let him pay out the A$$ so :/
