Good Quality for less, what do you think?

Got an open box Eclipse CD7000 from CCity, which will be installed tax included with all parts for $225 tomorrow. The receipt rings my unit at $159.95, so I suppose if I cancel the install, they refund the difference. Do you all think they will do a decent job, or am I better off price and quality wise at a high end shop or private person?

I spent a few hours reading this site tonight, seems a lot of people find the Eclipse CD7000 to be not that great, for what I am paying for it should I attempt to look for something better?

Should I ask them to prewire for two separate amps and a sub that I will be buying as soon as the overwhelming compulsion strikes, like 15 minutes after the install. Will doing it that way save me install money down the road so they don't have to keep pulling the deck out? Plus with it all pre wired I can almost just plug and play whatever I pick up myself. What do you think would be a fair price for the extra wiring?

Saw someone mention they got Alpine component speakers on clearance at Best buy for like $140 sounds like an awesome setup for quality at a cheap price.

A buddy is willing to sell me a 10" Rockford Fosgate sub and 200 watt amp used really cheap, I think it was just like a low line package system, is that a piece of shit?

Any feedback is helpful to me, Thanks.

I am thinking I can probably swap speakers out myself so I might be ok there.

people here dont really regard cc and bestbuy very high in the books of quality, service and price...But im sure they will install the head unit just fine. As for installing amp's and subs\speakers im sure with a few hours of reading you could do it yourself and would enjoy it alot more.

as for that 10 inch RF sub and amp...just depends on how cheap is really cheap :p if you dont know look on ebay and search google.com some sites ppl use here are...

onlinecarstereo.com

woofersect.com

sonicelectronix.com

ikesound.com

crutchfeild.com

millionbuy.com

and good old ebay.com

their are many more but i figured that would be a start. Also the search button helps. Good luck

Well I got it installed today, seems like they did a good job. My stock speakers won't put up with this headunit too long though, nor will I for that matter. Still sounded better than I ever would have imagined with stock, base 1995 toyota speakers.

Pretty decent for the price I paid, can't really complain. Even though it was open box for $150 I'm happy.

Sticks out of the dash about 3 feet, but on the brighter side of things the back seat passengers can change the stations as easily as I can.

I already have the upgrade impulse and that was before I heard a complete song. That's half the reason I stayed away from this hobby for so long.

I need one amazing set of speakers, whichever they may be, i'll go half way decent on an amp, perhaps an Alpine.

Add a modest sub / amp combo, maybe a 10" I'm into full range sound that balances and qualifies as crystal clear fidelity. To me when a system is too bass heavy it is almost as bad as when it is too bass lacking.

CC installed my first aftermarket HU and first sub/amp combo. that was like 6 years ago. they screwed up my dash either taking it apart or putting it back together. they broke a couple clips. i never really noticed until a almost a year later when i got my 9835. i DID notice that it didn't look right, but never really paid much attention (i just thought it was my POS car falling apart), but then i saw how they shoe-horned my old HU in and i will never go back to CC or BB (they broke some clips on my dad's F150 and he had to buy a new door panel--->they paid for that one though).

some CCs and BBs just have no clue as to what they are doin. I just got hired in at a brand new CC and we have some good installers. I would take my car there any day, cuz i no we do good work, but that cant be said about all of CCs and BBs.

Guys, I was only kidding about sticking out 3 feet, just not a flush fit. Honestly it sticks out about an inch more than I'd like but I guess part of that is due to this unit having to flip down to put CD's in?

Usually h/u's have to stick out because the vehicle designer put air ducts right behind the **** radio opening, and the vehicle manufacturer simply put some freakishly short am/fm radio in it. You go to put a standard sized deck in it and all the sudden is has to stick out an inch or two. The older S10's and Blazers are that way, drives me nuts. And of course, melting the plastic ducting and bending it to a new shape is not as easy as people say.

You say you want an 'amazing' set of speakers? or just really good bang for your buck? Try PG RSD's if its the latter. If its the former, well give us a budget and we'll go from there.

Well I'd love to say its the former but for right now I'm thinking the latter is where I need to be. I can always upgrade down the road.

Years ago I had a set of Boston Acoustics driven by an ADS P120, if I remember correctly I saved about $100 in not going with ADS speakers. They were almost as good though. I don't know if something that good is more than it was back then or less? Think I paid $250 for the Boston Acoustics.

Absolutely nothing I've heard at Best Buy or Circuit City had that full range crystal clarity to them. I didn't listen to anything from Polk's high end yet, the CC I was in didn't have them wired. The Infinity components at BB sounded the best I suppose but not amazing and they were like $250. The treble wasn't clean it was harsh.

When I look around at even medium end 5.1 Home based surround systems, say the polk 6800, which is only a 10" powered sub, 100 watts and a set of satelites, I'm like...that's what I want. That level of fidelity.

I almost feel like the manufacturers and big stores are really just pushing the angle, that as long as the diameter of your subwoofers exceeds that of your cars rims, you've hit the high fidelity threshold.

What happened to high end treble?
