Good quality budget amp to run a component set?

I think you did. 4 channels should have been convenient for the future, but two power channel for your front stage will be all you need fur a while, especially only doing mids and tweets.

If you were doing 3 way front stage, that'd be different.

Now you got a solid amp for your front stage.

Still not convinced on the components?

Hey, pm me

@trumpet;
So your telling us all **** headroom....
So i could by a 50 watt amp and drive my system.

Your logic hold true for loudness bro, but we're talking about how much output/response before clipping. There's a difference.

If it was about loudness a 20 watt amp will make a set scream.
We're not talking about loudness here.....
All right guys, I am about to order the Boston Acoustics GT-2200. I have been researching it for an hour straight and found nothing but great things. It's $190 shipped. Does 200 x 2 rms, 100 db signal to noise ratio, built in fan cooling etc. The only knock on it I guess would be it's a really big amp and weighs 13 lbs but that is no issue for me. I have all the room in the world. Now I need help choosing a 6.5" comp set! I have a budget of about $300 but I'll take this to the speakers forum. Thanks guys, hope I made a good decision.
Lol if you think that amp only does 200 watts per channel. But it won't matter as that'll be more than loud enough for you. Good choice!
@trumpet ; The reason why he was inundated with choices was so he would have a good variety to pick between. It's the same way I would want to have recommendations sent to me. And as for the headroom aspect, I understand what you're saying, but the intent is to keep the amp from running at threshold for long periods of time. The OP stated he does listen to some music that, on most downloaded tracks, is already into clipping regions. It's a much safer idea to have an amp that's not already going to be at its threshold to exacerbate the issue.

I'd also like to add that what stands out to me more than anything about this BA amplifier is how transparent it is and how willing it is to provide rich, dynamic presentation of the material. I'm halfway tempted to get another 2125 and run each as a mono amplifier (one for each side on passive components) to utilize the 24dB/Oct slopes it features. I had accidentally left it set up for sub mode (its previous purpose) and was getting mono output to both drivers. I almost thought I still had my sub in the car. Food for thought...

Music with heavy clipping won't need to have the source volume turned up as much to get as loud as a quieter recording. To my understanding this should mean the amplifier is operating at a relatively constant output, and if the head unit can drive the amplifier into audible clipping then it's up to the operator to turn the volume down. The 200W amplifier is a much higher risk of causing damage to 100W RMS speakers than a 100W amplifier, but both amplifiers are capable of "burning up" the same speakers due to operator error. This is why I hesitate to recommend grossly powerful amplifiers, and I assess this differently in every situation. I'm the guy who may have to tell a potential new customer, "No, I can't warranty the speakers that you blew with the oversized amp I sold you".
Class doesn't matter?
You better go read that amp thread @gckless; just posted at MAF.
I've gone back and forth between Class D and Class AB amplifiers in my car over the past year or so. They can both sound amazing. The Class D amp I have on my front speakers now is the most transparent amp I've run yet. Absolutely inaudible noise floor, no coloration of the sound at all to my ears. I'm not at all saying there's no difference in sound between different amplifiers, as I've heard differences in every amp I've tried. I'm saying there's a point where good enough is enough to the average person. There is NOTHING WRONG with being an average audio enthusiast. It's so much easier to enjoy music in the car when you're not thinking about how some change could maybe make it sound 1% better.
