Are these products a good match? The subwoofer "power range" graphic at the bottom of this page JL Audio 12W7AE Subwoofers - Car Audio Subwoofers is different compared to the one in the PDF file here http://mobile.jlaudio.com/pdfs/RecPowerChart_11.pdf

The graphic below shows 1000W in the orange and the pdf shows it at red.

JL Audio Slash 1000/1v2 Amp

Rated Power: 1000 W RMS @ 1.5 ohm - 4 ohm (11V-14.5V)

Will i be able to use these together? Are they a match or do i need to do something specific to make them play nice? Thanks.

Any experience with the HD models? Would the HD750 be a better fit for the JL Audio 12W7AE-3 subwoofer? JL Audio HD750/1 Amplifiers - Car Audio Amps & Amplifiers

My confusion/concern is about where the sweet spot is in terms of enough but not too much power. I want to drive it as hard as i possibly can within the 'safe zone'. Plus the 750 would save me some money //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif.

I am also trying to figure out the Slash vs HD models & pricing in this thread : http://www.caraudio.com/forums/amplifiers/517441-jl-audio-amps-can-someone-explain-classes-models-me.html

well if you get the slash and have a decent batt and alt it should be perfect and no i originally wanted the HD750 but they were all being recalled and had a bad shipment so i just got the slash. the slash is an amazing amp sounds fantastic just my friend and i both had bad luck with it but the HD should be a better choice. the slash is an old design anyways and it's huge lol. and to top it off a guy on here just posted a thread about running a true 1000watts to a w7 and it didn't like it at all

and with JL where you can save money do it lol. or youll end up broke buying their **** haha

Thread Update! I think i figured out the issue with the graphic above. Looks like they missed the little "optimal" line in the graphic. Appears to be somewhere around 750. If not for checking the other woofer models i would have totally missed their mistake. Now the PDF makes sense.

who knows. if they're built the way jl says they are they should have handled the clean power. jl's subs do sound good just not a fan of the price. out of all the big names im a rockford guy

I have had 5 cars in my lifetime with an audio system in them and all were sourced hardware from flea markets or trades or buys from friends. I would always buy the biggest amps and woofers i could with the money i had. I only had 1 amp fail on me and i was able to get it repaired for $20 at this little shop near where i grew up. Because of this history/experience i wasn't expecting product to fail especially at the higher end. But... i work with other technology and i totally get that some stuff is buggy no matter what it costs.

So... since i am not familiar with what brands are reliable... I gotta ask what brands are usually reliable? I want a single sub and mono amp. I want the sub to be between 10-12" and i want something along the lines of the items listed in my first post (in terms of power/output).

I have installed plenty of JL audio subwoofers for home theater systems. This is what got me looking at the brand initially. The fathoms are freaking phenomenal little subs and they have been super reliable. But obviously that doesn't mean that their mobile amps are reliable. I was only looking at those to match the subs.

I basically want to do this system once and do it right. Its a restoration car i plan to keep for a while. I am trading graphic/web design labor for product so cost isn't a primary concern. But if the product isn't reliable i will use something else.

here's some great companies, digital designs, ssa, sundown audio, i like rockford, surprisingly cadence has some good stuff, and FI makes truly some nasty woofers in your case the Q would be your best bet for a musical and driver that still can beat the block
