I'm in the market for a relaible laptop, up to modern standards, 512 memory, good processor... In the range of 200-800 bucks. Any suggestions for a new one? Plus, I have big fingers so the ones with a small sized keyboard generally drive me up the wall.

Thanks in advance, need help finding somthing. Built in wireless would be a plus.

what is it for? gaming? school/work? or just browsing online? or like for media?

Everything... Big storage space for music would be cool, but it will mostly be used for email, internet, and word processing. I don't do many games.

The biggest thing is reliability- I don't want it to **** up.

my opinion would be the lower end of acer laptops, or a good deal with any name brand.

Before It got repo'd by my college (while I'm sitting out a semester), I had an IBM ThinkPad T41, it was very nice and as long as you took care of it (like my fellow students did not) it was indeed a very trustworthy machine. flakko, what did you get???

I've never seen anything nicer than a thinkpad... I wouldn't even consider a dell, hp, compaq etc... I've worked on them all and the thinkpad is amazing.. My fav part was installing from scratch and downloading a SINGLE program that automatically detected and updated drivers on everything. It has a nice sturdy case, nice screens (like all of them), nice kb feel.... you really can't go wrong with a thinkpad...

I was actually thinking of getting one of then new apple laptops... I do alot of online banking and questionable internet surfing and they are supposedly more secure, but the price, gah, it will kill ya.

i got myself a G41... kinda outdated and bulky, 2.53 cel D 256 RAM, 2" thick but it was only 500 bucks //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

no just quit using IE to surf... get firefox... the reason they are more "secure" is their small market share and closed archetecture

A gaming laptop would hardly be portable in any case... sure they exist, and they work... but you could get a nice desktop that outruns the gaming laptop AND a nice office/personal use laptop for the price of a decent gaming laptop
