Generally these are used along with deadening. A large hole needs to be cut in the back other wise the lower freqs. are killed. Just make sure water won't be able to flow in so leave an over hang on the top portion and make sure it can flow away from the the bottom if any does get in there.

 
I hadnt bought them yet but you answered my questions. I wondered if it would kill the lower freuquency range from choking them. Apparently IT DOES! The way my trunk is setup (02 Taurus) the speakers have a nice enclosed area to pull air from so it gives decent low end even with junk paper cones powered by the oem HU.
