Im getting my License around the end of November. I have a '95 Ford Escort LX with 60k miles on it.

My budget for the system is 500-600 dollars (preferably 5)

Im planning on getting a nice sound system but literally know nothing about them. I plan on getting subs/new speakers/the whole 9 yards.

What would be a good set of speakers for the front:6.5 and the back 5x 7 to go with?

This is going to be my HU: Kenwood Excelon KDC-X395 CD receiver at Crutchfield.com

I dont know what amp/sub im getting

(ps: i listen to hip hop only)

thanks.

For speakers, look at the speaker lines from Alpine. They generally have good bang for the buck. But new speakers run on only power from the head unit will NOT get any louder (most likely quieter than stock to be honest) unless you hook them up to an amp. I would recommend the Alpine KTP-445U. It's not a traditional amp because it doesn't require a power wire to the battery making install much easier, and it's small enough to usually just fit in the space behind your head unit. It's a 4 channel and gives 45 watts per channel at 4 ohms. That's a really good deal for $150 (maybe less if you shop around). I have one, and it powers my Focals fine. Only reason I upgraded to a different amp is because I'm really big into the 100-200Hz frequencies (which require more power to the speakers.

Bottom line: look at some Alpine speakers that will fit your budget, and don't forget an amp (I recommend the Alpine KTP-445U).
