Good choice?

replacing the speakers in my 99 cherokee. From what ive gathered 6.5's fit up front and i have 6.5's in the rear. Although Im kind of worried about depth issues up front.

Im looking at alpine SPR-17S components up front and Alpine SPR-17C coaxials in the rear. Are these good speakers? I want something that sounds good without a sub also because Im not gunna be bumping all the time but also want them compliment my 12 inch Re SX at 1500 watts. I guess my biggest concern is I dont want to be drowned out.

I'd ditch the coaxials, not have any rear speakers...also not a fan of the Type R components.

How much depth do you actually have? Don't forget that to get the most out of them, you'll need to build a baffle out of 1/2" or 3/4" material to mount the speaker to, should get you a little more clearance in the door...

Why no rear speakers? It seems like this is a popular choice for people? If not Alpine any recommendations? Can anyone explain the baffle thing better?

There's a thread here, "Sound Deadening and You", that's required reading for this.

I'm not a fan of rear speakers because they wreck any potential at a coherent stereo image up front, if this isn't a concern of yours then it's alright.

Get some ID CTX65cs comps for the front and leave the rears out, I ran Alpine speakers before and was not impressed with them honestly.
