got back from the exhaust shop today. The guy said that it looked like he could save a lot of my Y pipe. I figured that part was shot for sure because most of what i could see was made out of ancient flex pipe from some long ago ghetto rig up.

Once it was on the hoist he said it actually looked ok past the flex pipe. He thought that he could just basically try to rebuild part of it and use whats there instead of making a complete new one.

I was skeptical about it being a half azz way of doing it and if i wouldn't be better off just replacing it all. He said if it was his Jeep, he'd try fixing whats there. it'd cost less, and he felt confident in trying. He said if he had any doubts at all once he got started he'd just replace it for me.

The other thing i learned was that in South Dakota you do need a catalytic converter. I was retarded and listened to someone who said that if it was already gone when you took it to a shop, they did not have to replace it.

I went through the considerable trouble of making sure mine fell off yesterday, which was no easy task. When i brought it into the shop there was nothing at all past the disintegrating flex tubing hooked to what was left of the Y pipe.

When the guy at the exhaust shop said it'd be about $2-300 for a new Cat, i was like wtf?!! i told him i didn't really want one and didn't think i needed one. He said by law if they're gone he has to put a new one back on and you cant buy a used one.

I told him that i'd saved the pieces of the exhaust as they'd fallen off and the original cat was probably in my garage. I asked if he could re-use the old one. Luckily he said if it is the exact same cat from that vehicle they can put it back on and i can save few hundred.

I told the guy the old cat was 100% junk and it looked like somebody had busted out the insides with a baseball bat. You can see right through it. Apparently that doesn't matter as long as there is at least a decorative shell of a catalytic converter that he can weld into place we are complying with the law.

So All in all it's looking like perhaps i wont have to spend so much on exhaust. He said around $300 with my old cat and rebuilding my Y pipe for either a glass pack or an OEM muffler.

I want a low rumble at idle and something that lets you know is a v8 when you step on it, i'm just not sure if a glass pack will be too irritating or the OEM too quiet.

My straightpipes sound nice n loud on my 4.6 dohc..Though its a diff animal. I'd get alittle sumtin to put in there..Check out the dynamax bullets..Or just do the cherrybombs.
