Going to build my first HT box

Thinking about going big and building with this:

and these as tweets:

I only want to build one box and run it under my tv (I live in a split level so I have a bit of a ledge all the way around my living room. I was thinking 6 of the woofers but how many of the tweeters would be necessary? Just 1?

If anyone has a design that comes to mind, I would appreciate some input. I was, of course, thinking of an array.

Also, I have some AA Poly 6.5's some and some RE 8's that I could use as well. Should I just sell those (my current plan) and build with the stuff above?

I wouldn't go with a single box under your TV....say good bye to stereo separation and sound stage....

If I were you I would pair the AA Polys with a solid tweeter and build separate enclosures for them...

Well I thought about that, but my plan was kinda like this VERY lame letter diagrahm below

X= woofer

T = Tweeter

Well ****, it doesn't work unless I'm in preview //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif Well I sorta got it. The reason why I'm thinking this would be ok is because my living room is small.

i wish i could build my HT system but all my speakers and amps just got jacked last night //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

but i would do what fast said. pair em up.

Sorry to hear about your bad luck //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif Insurance will cover it?

I really don't want to do a pair, I want a single enclosure that is just really long. I'm thinking as long as I keep the speakers seperated, it should work.

Horizontal arrays don't work well because of the nature of how line arrays disperse sound.

Single source speakers radiate in a spherical manner, while line arrays radiate sound in a cylindrical manner.

What you will get is a limited sound stage...In addition, line arrays suffer from comb filtering. So the distance from the center of each driver, call it B, is where the response starts rolling off due to cancellation. For 6.5 inch woofers, its around 1.8-2khz, which means the tweeter will have to work pretty hard...

So in conclusion, don't do it. If you don't care about how wide your sound stage is, then just do a single driver and tweeter per side as far apart as you can

A horizontal array will limit effective horizontal dispersion due to comb filtering effects. Unless it is really really wide (like a line array turned on its side). The easiest thing to do is just to build standard 2 way TM speakers or 2.5 way TMM speakers. If you insist on just a single box, go with 2 full ranges in separate chambers.

Wow, thanks fellas. I guess I am going a different route. Kinda depressing, I really wanted to do that :p But I want it to sound good. So back to the drawing board //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Nice graphic... Where did you find that?
Somewhere on DIY audio //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
Gonna build me some line arrays pretty soon....they are for HT use so BIG SOUND is the goal....they are going to be open baffle too //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

Open baffle eh Mr Fancy pants?

Fancy? Gah, simplicity is more like it...I tried an open baffle setup and I really liked the open sound stage...its hard to describe. FR isn't near perfect, but its an addicting sound...effortless is a better word, especially when drivers are used in numbers....
Essentially its going to be my HT setup and live recording setup, when I want to rock out //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif
