Going from Sealed to Ported

I have 2 Pioneer 2000SPL's, which I had in a pre-fab sealed 1.00 cu.ft. box for a few months. So I decided to build a ported box on my own (my first box).

I built it to Pioneer's specs, 1.75 cu.ft. per sub with a 4" wide, 6.5" long circular port. I plugged in one sub to my amp and gave it 200 watts. It was just as loud, if not louder than both my subs sealed with 800 watts. Then I plugged both in, and WOW what a difference. I turned the system most of the way up and the subs still wanted more and sounded great with little to no port noise, and sound quality pretty much the same as sealed. Unfortunately my head unit broke for some reason shortly after this, so I cant continue listening to my imporved bass till I get it fixed //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

So for those of you contemplating going ported, I would highly reccommend it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/thumbsupwink.gif.129404938effda6ad9cca39e7f4b58a3.gif

Ill post pics of the box later

I know exactly how you feel, I pulled out my old MTXs to put in my girlfriends car. I put them in a ported box and **** it was loud. I was pissed i couldn't fit a ported box in my truck. Oh well i guess

well it wont let me start a thread for some reason so inm gonna post this her

ok so i recently got a infinity perfect 10.1 currently its in a pre-fab sealed box. i wanna throw it in a ported box so it will get a little louder

the info infinity gave me says the ported box should be

Vbox= 1.00ft3 (28.32 liters) didnt mention sub displacement

infinity is saying the port should be 3 inches wide and 10.40 in long. thats tuned at 35 hz

so if i wanted to build this box it would be 12"X12"x12"

would i be better off having someone on here desighn a box for me??

if i can get the right dimensions early enough im gonna head up to home depot and pick up the mdf

ill post pics

yea i would have someone design it for you, i'll see if i can't wip something up for you, give me driver displacement and i'll give you some dimensions

ok this probably sounds stupid. im looking over the paperwork and i dont see the subs displacement.

whats the tech term for sub displacement. cause ive got the technical data sheet.

if someone could help me with a box desighn ide appreciate it.

i think the infinity site is down also

thanks once again

i was just reading over all my paperwork.

ok this is from my subwoffer instructions

when using vented boxes we recommend using a subsonic filter to limit the power sent to the speaker at frequencies below the enclosures port tuning frequency, thus limiting the speakers excursion.

how much would one of these cost ive never heard of it??

do i really need it???

Here are the long-awaited pics of my box making their final debut. Tell me what you think.

traksta15, im not sure of the tuning, but it doesnt sound any worse than they did in a 1.00 cu.ft. sealed. But its a hell of a lot louder

There she is... in my trunk. Red carpeting soon to come.

One of the subs, with the port. Yes, gorilla glue is messy.

Yes, Home Depot does make straight cuts

Another body shot

You don't see that in just any ordinary '88 Taurus Wagon

Too bad I can't listen to it... my HU is broken //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

But its okay because I won a million dollars from Burger King

Sweet, get some carpet on there while your getting you're HU fixed.

My spl's had the same size box but the ports were twice as long (4x13), I loved it.

I have pics, but they're not digital and I don't have a scanner.
