Going active on a 2-way comp set

Ok as far as I knew all I needed was a 4 channel amp. Now the audio shop is saying I need some other type of processing.. is this true? Can you tell me exactly what I will need to run my components active?
you do need an active crossover, either from the headunit or an external one. I don't think the CD4000 has one.

The answer is it depends. The amplifier should have built-in crossovers, but the question is will they be flexible enough to accomodate the needs of both the mids and the tweeters. Many internal xovers on amps these days are simple HP filters meant simply to run a passive component set. If that is the case, then yes you need to properly filter the signal before it reaches the amplifier. And if your h/u is not capable of this on its own, you will indeed need an external xover/processor. There's alot of ifs there however, check to verify your current components cannot accomodate this before you shell out any more money for another piece.
