Go over rms

How many of you who run subs go over the RMS? I have a T1 15 that takes 1000 watts RMS. I own a RF T1000-1BDCP and a T1500-1BDCP. The T1000-1BDCP pushes it perfectly and when I tried out the T1500-1BDCP with the gain control barely turned up also pushes it perfectly. My question is which one would you run the T1000-1BDCP with the gain at 5 or the T1500-1BDCP with the gain barely at 1?

A gain isn't a volume control. The only way you know the true amount of power before box rise is by using a dmm.

I don't use the gain as a volume control. I have good enough ears to tell when the woofer starts bottoming out. I have set gains on my amps several times over the years to only take my car to the shop to use the DMM and have them tell me that my gains were set too low. I would prefer that they be as low as possible.

then turn them all the way to the left. voila, as low as possible
