getting tight bass

i imagine a sealed enclosure is best for this. i was thinking of putting together 2 jl 10" w6v2 in a parallel config running off an alpine pdx 1000/1 . i hate boomy, am not into competitions but also cannot stand thin, washed out drum riffs. Is there any benefit to building a sealed enclosure filled with polyfill or other acoustical dampener?

If you want a "tight" sound, a small sealed enclosure will probably be your best bet. You would also probably not want to use polyfil as it will reduce the midbass output you're really looking for when you describe a "tight" sound. But, sealed enclosures can also be boomy. Since you're considering the W6s, you won't have a problem there.

If by "tight" you mean "quick and punchy", then you're not really talking about subbass any more. Subbass is naturally slow and thick. Most of the "tight and punchy" sound is actually in the lower midbass region (which may or may not be primarily reproduced by your subwoofers, depending on your setup). In which case I'd recommend giving proper attention to your midbass speakers and not just the subwoofers.

If by "tight and not boomy" you mean a subbass setup that has a relatively flat frequency response instead of an exaggerated low end or overbearing emphasis ("boomy") then it's mainly an issue of proper sub-to-mid integration and equalization as well as considering the acoustics of the vehicle when designing the enclosure.
