how can i get past this, to log into windows (vista)?

what i really want to do is install XP, but its not letting me...

i boot from my xp pro cd, gets to the part that says

-to set up windows xp now press enter

-repair press R

etc.

i press enter, and it says

setup did not find any hard disk drivers installed in your computer.

make sure any hard disk drivers are powered on and properly connected to your computer, and that any disck related hardware configuration is correct. this may involve running a manf. supplied diag or setup program.

setup cant continue, press f3 to quit setup.

wtf

It's because you didn't load the SATA drivers while booting from the CD. Windows XP doesn't have native SATA drivers for many chipsets.

You need to dowload the drivers for whatever SATA chip the MOBO has and put them on a floppy. When booting from the XP CD you will be prompted to hit F6 to load additional drivers for hard drive controllers. Hit F6 at that time of course. then it will proceed to load more files and then will prompt you to select the drivers yo uwant loaded. Browse to where you put them on the floppy and do what the screen says. Then when it finally loads into XP setup, it will recognize and display the drive.

that would make that particular XP disc only good with that MOBO then right?
No. You leave all native drivers on it. Hell even add drivers of popular controllers you don't need if you think the occasion will arise in the future. You are only adding to what XP already has.
