Getting fired, am I facing legal issues?

OP is on company time... he is at work not at home..he is being paid to be "working" not surfing the net or anything other than WORK during his hours on the job.

last time I checked an employer doesnt need to specify that...FYI...
An employer needs to specify everything in writing. For him to be able to post to the forums means it's ok for him to surf the net in his "down time" I don't think his performance is what's in question here. If he was a shitty employee that surfed the net all day, he'd be gone.

But again there has to be policies in place or the OP can just plead ignorance. You can't assume anything is or was implied when it comes to the fallout from firing someone.

and they can still pull the HDD out...

or do this and find out it had nothing to do with you //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif
They could....but would they pay the huge fee that would be required to do so? Is it really worth it? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

Disclaimer: I take no part in this situation and all information hereafter is strictly for educational means.

Neos on a hdd does not work usually. There are two ways. Full format(Not quick or fast) 7 times, or physically take a torch to the platters in the hdd. Heat the platters until they are slightly red hot, at which point they will be past the curie point, and lose their magnetic charge.

The format 7 times is 99.5% successful on removing 100% of the files. I have tested this myself, with a manual recovery program. I am part of a computer repair business.

Good sir. They would spend lots of money to prove that an otherwise good worker was surfing the internet. We are talking the internet. It is still taboo in most cultures to my knowledge.

As long as he completes his work and gets the golden star sticker who really cares?

Oh yeah suits.

Don't know about New York, but here in the communist wealth. That chit won't fly. You can be fired for pretty much anything short of discrimination. With no consequence to the employer. Right to work state my fat hairy arse //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Randy what is the Computer name or Computer ID. I hope you weren't stupid and called it "Randy's PC" or something stupid like that, because then they will find you and come to your house and seizure your assets and take your laptop and find pr0n.

Give me a break.

well im not reading through all of these pages but in regards of you reformating your hard drive to hide stuff or whatever your plans are

your isp holds everything you ever searched

along with your isp, google holds all the info you have ever searched using google

not sure if it was posted, just trying to give you a heads up, good luck

Keep your laptop at home. Wipe the hard drive on your work PC and reinstall windows. Do a full format when you do. Install crap clear to auto-start with windows, and set it to do a nsa secure file deletion on each start. If they give you any crap, tell them you don't know wtf they are talking about and act insulted. As mentioned above, there are probably logs somewhere on a server that contain everything you've ever done online. I'd just start fresh and lay low.

Im sure you'll be ok. Just take it as a warning. Dont put yourself in the situation again. I kow work is boring and all, but its not worth losing your job to surf the webz. I really think youll be ok bro.

Dave

Don't wipe your hard drive, don't smash your computer, and don't panic. They already know something was going on, so destroying your property or lying isn't really going to be beneficial. If they pointedly ask you, I would admit it with the pretext that it was specifically permitted by your last boss. I think most likely they are coming to make sure the network is secure and to establish clear policies on what type of traffic is permissible.
