ok i'll be getting a single 12" re se. dual 4 ohm.

what ohm load should i be looking for in a amp?

i've been looking at this..

http://forums.caraudio.com/vb/showthread.php?t=31984

(1) 4 ohm DVC speaker = 2 ohm load.

but then i saw a thread about somebody having single 4 ohm load...whats the difference from dual and single?

and if you can correct if i'm wrong...i've been eyeing this amp.

http://cgi.ebay.com/Phoenix-Gold-XENON-600-1-X600-1-CLASS-D-Amp-NEW-05-600W_W0QQitemZ5797503880QQcategoryZ18797QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Number of Channels: 1 - Mono

RMS Power (4 ohms): 600 watts x 1 chan.

RMS Power (2 ohms): 600 watts x 1 chan.

RMS Power (1 ohm): 600 watts x 1 chan.

if the sub/amp is compatible...would i be running 2 ohms: 600w x 1 chan?

A dual voice coil is a driver with two voice coils, each having it's own speaker wire terminals. So, think of it as two drivers into one. You can hook these two coils up in different ways, which will present a different resistance (ohms) to the amp. Hooking both coils up in parallel will give you 2 ohms. Hooking them up in series will give you 8 ohms. You could also have two amps and hook one up to each coil. You don't have this option with a single voice coil because there is only one set of speaker terminals.

Use the amp you mentioned above, hooked both coils up in parallel and you will get 600w to the sub.

that amp will do fine. most amps do differant power rating at differant ohms but PG makes some cool amps thatll do all thier power at differant ohms. JL does that too.

anyways, the differant between your sub and his is his is a single voice coil and urs is a double. the part "voice coil" refers to a mechanical part of the sub that power runs though and do to electromagnetic fileds, makes the cone move.... each voice coil has an "ohm" rating, which stands for resistance. you COULD research this but i'll just give you a brief synapsis.....other will just flame you for not researching...im not an old fart like those guys heheheh j/k

ok. single voice coil sub (SVC for short)..... one voice coil. it has only one ohm rating for it....in his case it is a 4 ohm sub so he can only run THAT sun at 4 ohms..... if he wires it with other subs he has other wireing options...

you have a Dual voice coil sub (DVC) each VC being 4 ohms. in order for your sub to run you have to have both coils wired up so there's 2 ways to do this. series, or parallel (sp?) reasearch ohms law and wireing diagrams for more info on that. but with way with a 4ohm DVC like ur sub, that sub has the wireing options of 8 ohms (series) or 2 ohm (parelllel) if you're running just that one sub you're best off with the 2 ohm load...

some subs out there even has 4 voil coils....and those are crraazzyy. many wireing option with those...but most on the market are single or dual voice coils..... hope that helped

and RESEARCH, use the serach botton on the right side of the bar near the top...you'll learn AAALLLLOOOTTTT

Thank you both very much TeenWolf and BassAddictJ!!!

i researched a bit...about 2 hours. I thought i had everything right...until i saw some guy saying something about single coil.

heh. i hate "ohm load"... i want to drive at a high "miles per hour speed" in my car... in a typical day i drink a large "pint volume" of soda. putting the unit before the thing it descibes is just a strange way of saying things.

of course a lot of people say it.

load or impedance is preferable. people usually don't call something by its unit. however just calling it ohms is slightly preferable to ohm load.

phrases where impedance is specified are fine. 4ohm load, 2ohm load, 4ohm bridged load, all fine.
