Just my experiance with the AQ woofers, I would seriously recommend building your new box with 2 layers of 3/4 MDF. You'll gain a considerable amount of output and it will sound much better.
are you sayin built the entire box wit 2 layers of 3/4 or just the front baffle?

From watching your video's, I can guarantee the noise isn't comming from the sub bottoming out. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif I should have taken a video of the 12 I tested with 4 M1a's running it. My guess is that the box is making the sound from the woofer being loaded so hard against it.

My 0.02 about the sub location on the baffle. I would center the woofer between the port wall and the side of the box, like DJ recommended. When you have the woofer that close to a wall inside the box, it causes uneven pressure on the cone. We went through many woofers in the Team Budweiser Luv due to that very issue. We had the woofers a little too close to the side wall of the box, and the coils would smack the top plate on the port side every time we poured some power to it. Thanks to DJ and Jassa's recommendations we were able to correct the problem. Funny thing is they helped us out, even though we were running MT's instead of DD's or AQ's. We called them trying to buy woofers because we were getting mad at the MT's, and they told us how to fix our crap so we didn't have to buy woofers.
cool man thanks. the more info/related experience, the better for me //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif. also as mentioned, do you mean build the entire box out of 2 layered mdf? i have always done single baffles with bracing. but if i can gain buy going a different route while not dumping too much cash, i would do it.

skrilla: honestly, the noise, as talked about in this thread, is a good 99.9% chance of being an install issue (everything seems to point to it), and not a woofer issue. as for the tuning, i went over with my new box design with DJ and he is adamant about not tuning so low (he suggests that the lowest you go is about 38hz with this particular sub). im willing to toss my experiences to the wind, in order to listen to the guy who actually designed the sub //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

kskitka: honestly for the ssf, i would try to play a song that you know gets super low, and adjust while your back there. or you can just play a sine wave (25hz or whatever you wan that you think is low enough). start with the ssf set high, and while the tone is playing slowly turn it down. if you happen to see it bottom out and unload, turn it up some. i would go by what you see the woofer is doing, versus just seeing "25hz" on the knob and leaving it there.

chevyaudio: i would be super interested to see what you can do with a single 12" and compare it to the btl and mt's you've used.

I usually do the entire box in 2 layers. Sometimes I just double layer the baffle if it's just a test box or trying a new idea. It depends on what the box is for really. If it's a daily driver box that I want to sound good and last a long time, I will always double the entire box.

sounds like a plan
"Ignore me" is giving you good advice. No two people listen the same, set it where you think you would like it and see if it unloads. I've never seen the sub unload at 25-30 Hz in a moderate size box tuned in the 36-40 Hz range but every application is going to react diff and there is always a first time for anything.

I set mine at 25 but I don't push my system like the average young guys do.

im having bjfish11 make my box... and if you check out the thread "the elephant box" you can see that double baffles AND bracing are what is going to make this monster play mid 50's with 3k and push 58's and 59's with 12k... just saying good subs+good box+good power= God ****NN THATS LOUD... and this is my daily driver.

after talking to DJ we ended up shortening the port a little bit, cause it was tuning at 28Hz and now it will be closer to 37.

2 15's doing high 50's at 42Hz in a tahoe.... i love my life!

dj im fixing to buy four of your hdc3 12s soon infact i should be buying one when im home this time from work i hear there as every bit as good as dd so im need dual 2 and i just cant afford to change all 4 dd coils so ill sell out and just buy from you thanks for a great price
