Get my HD3C15 today

i was looking through your photobucket and saw that a while back. looking good. that type r looks like its been put through hell though lol
Haha, its just dirty. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

You are quite a bit further from the port wall with a much smaller sub and motor structure. Tuck it in too close and the cone doesn't load even
That port is actually very long, probably farther away than his 15" box.

But to have more of a comparison, I have done similar things with 12" and 15" boxes with similar results.

Honestly, he probably won't see a difference either way.

If it works for you go for it.

Honestly when i first saw his box i was going to say something about sub placement.... but i did not want to for some odd reason. And now that i think about it i had some funny noise with my mj-18 when the hole was cut off center..... meh what do i know?
DJL what box size and tuning do u recommend for the 12?
i had positioned the sub close to the port at the recommendation of ngsm. he said by placing the sub closer to the corner, it makes sure that the air is compressed into the port, instead of having it compressed into the corner of the port as well as the port if the sub is farther way. hope that makes sense. but the way DJ explains it, that makes sense too. only way to see what works best for me is to try it i guess.

im guessing, that maybe i got the logic right, but my application was bad.

1.7-2.5. 38-40Hz

oh FUCK! ok well i found my info on my box. so here it is. keep in mind this box was designed for a BTL, which has no pole vent.

my box is 15.25" deep internally. my port is 4.5 x 20. and the mounting depth on the AQ is 8.875". so doing the math, i have come to realize that my motor and pole vent on the HDC3 15 is 1.125" away from the port wall. could this be my issue, especially when adding this to the fact that im PACKED in the corner?

Well you just proved something that can almost negate any same box different woofer testing to ever be a quality testing method.
Probably does effect it.

Build a new box and then do the testing, I bet your results will have changed dramatically.
yea, i just never even thought about it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif. now by actually seeing how bad i am packed in the corner, its really starting to suggest an install issue.

i will be building a new box VERY soon as i already have a design i sketched up. 4^3ft @ 36hz 60^2 of port, with 8" of clearance from the pole vent to wall, and MUCH MUCH MUCH more clearance all around the basket/motor. will be orientated sub up/port back.

still debating on tuning, but other than that the design is done.

i really do hope it changes how the sub reacts.

WOW, that is VERY tight. That could be whats causing all that noise.

Sounds good. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

tell me about it lol. hindsight is always 20/20...although i guess it never hurts to pay attention when you are designing either //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

Good try though. Sorry it wasnt drop in and play capable. :p
I like the way this thread moves.
yea, i wanted to cop out since the box seemed to match the hdc15 quite well, as well as being able to do a direct drop in comparison to the btl (maybe thats why the btl had that sound as well, although it was quieter). i dont have cash to fling around on tons of boxes so i thought i was home free.

however now i feel like i have done the sub an injustice. so a build thread will ensue.
